A measuring caliper is showing 48mm of clearance in the fork, so I'm thinking I should be brave and try to dent the sides. Even if I mess up the curve, it might not be too obvious? Maybe I should get the short version so as not to have to much of a poorly fitting flap over the front wheel if it comes to that...

Rando fixie back in the spotlight. Had a nice strong ride today, I just know this'll be very sick fully built up. Massive kudos to @Ph1ll1p for brazing the posts and crimping the stays <333
Some GB mudguards, nitto m12 rack, VO decaleur, etc. Dunno what's up with the cockpit, I swear bdhu was on point in the workshop. Might find a pair of campy levers for it anyhow.

Credit where credit is due, they appreciate all sorts of bikes, just prefer to ride something they're used to (which is absolutely the correct thing to do).
My motivation for building my (rando-esque) bikes or doing audaxes is very Freudian. The paternal issues go away when a tired MAMIL in a PBP vest leans over to examine my bike from a polite distance and compliments me on the 'job well done eh' while I'm sitting down on the gas station curb eating my ice cream pretending my legs are still fresh after 8h of riding.

So I had the same problem on another bike with GBs, and I just squished them in a vice. I was kinda impatient at the time. Worked fine but fucked the curve, and it sits funny over the front wheel now.
I'm not sure cutting them up is an option. I tried drilling through once, and didn't get far. That steel is tough. Had to hammer through to get a brake bridge hole on the rear.

I have a conundrum. I have a 42 tyre that I want to wrap up in some pretty mudguard, but the fork only clears around 45cm. GB mudguards come in 40mm and 50mm width at 650b. The former might touch the tyre, the latter won't fit in the fork without bending. I'm very reluctant to bend stainless steel mudguards, is there a safe way to do it without ruining the shape?
Or should I go chromoplastic and file away the bit under the fork?
Moulin Muirs in Fife. Super bumpy, with some steep stuff. I think I'd prefer the long climbs?
