Is acceptance of not having a silent bike a mandatory part of mudguard bike? My front tyre juuuussstttt whistles on the edge of the mudguard enough to be annoying. Wheel is maybe not the true-est and possibly mudguard is not totalllly straight (cit.). Can’t hear it once the winds blowing in your ears and it doesn’t really cause any drag but it is annoying when I hear it. Shall I just accept this and move on? Probably just put headphones on every time I ride this, that’ll do it.
But yeah anyway, flipped the stem, it looks awful, in an ideal world this steerer wouldn’t be slammed but we gotta do what we gotta do. Itwas fine the other way but kinda only when actually putting power down to relieve my weak upper body. For commuting it’s much better like this. Maybe I’ll get super strong over winter after #stay[ing]outsideforlonger and #outsideisfree’ing up my Instagram stories and and flip it down again.
I’m about 176cm tall with proportionally much longer legs than torso so why I keep buying these bikes with long top tubes and small head tubes is beyond me…
Jokes aside, I’m actually really looking forward to cruising round autumnal lanes on this thing and bright n cold winter days. Less so the rain. But I really am going to try stick out cycling this winter and not fall off for months like I did last time because of work hectic-ness and the shit weather.
I do have plans to go tubeless on this bike also. However I tried it with these gravel kings and it just totally fkin sucked. These tyres are so loose and floppy that I had to use CO2 to seat them and then they would leak a little around some patches of the bead. I’ve resigned myself to waiting for my first puncture of the winter when I will then be fuelled by rage to go and buy some good tubeless tyres for it. Some Pirelli Cinturato Velos maybe, or some Teravail slicks.

Yeah have been riding them with a tube in for weeks, the front is on and popped in to place but there is some bubbling in a small section of the bead near the valve. I’ve got it resting so that the sealant hopefully pools in that place and seals it
They’re super floppy tyres, i think that’s been outwardly addressed in Panaracer’s new version of their Gravelkings
-
yeah annoyingly the front won’t seal either side of the valve, I took the bead off, made sure it was clean, put more sealant in, had to use another CO2 to get it to seal again, but still the same thing. LONG.
it’s for my winter fixed bike so i was dreaming of hopefully avoiding all punctures and not have to faff with horizontal track ends and a rear mudguard when i get a puncture
-
I tried CO2 and the third and biggest canister worked, though i think that had more to do with those being the 2nd-4th times that I’ve ever used C02.
Annoyingly i still need to do the rear wheel so out to the local bike shops i go.
@hippy I’m very curious about this trick

is there a good way to get older floppy tyres to seat?
I’ve got some gravelking SKs in 35mm that I’m trying to mount to a Panceti Brevet rim. The tyres came used on this bike but clearly have been setup tubeless before. They were very easy to get on and off, the bead feeling ‘looser’ than what I’ve come across before (never had these tyres before, but have just finished putting some Pirelli 45s on my grav bike).I’ve put straps around the circumference of the tyre/wheel but it just won’t hold air. The beads are just sat in the middle of the rim and air is just blowing out like wind through some curtains.
Do i need a compressed air thing for this?

I kinda need two new sets of tyres for two bikes at the same time, so was wondering if I could scope a bargain out on here to try limit that hit to the ol bank account.
1) one pair of 32c slick road tyres to replace some 35c semi slick GKs that are pushing mudguard clearance quite closely
2) one pair or 42-45c gravel tyres with on the knobblier side of the grav spectrum without being full blown mud tyres
cheers

I wanted tto believe this was possible to the point where I’d go through some rigorous nettle bashing to come out with immunity but I think the science says no.
At one point earlier this summer I was thinking ‘surely I can pay someone some money and they inject me with something gives me immunity to these fucking things’
Now I just pretty much always wear long sleeves. -
I’ve had one from @Buildhigh for a couple years. Is well made.
