I built up a 1x10 flat bar gravel bike using parts-bin components, but I’m not really enjoying flat bars and am missing the comfort/different positions possible with drops. So I’d like to switch to drops but am struggling to figure what I can keep from the existing build and hopefully not spend too much ££ switching over. Right now it’s got cheapo 10 speed Sram MTB derailleur and shifter. Shimano 1x chainring and Deore hydraulic brake levers and callipers.
Could I keep the Deore callipers and switch the flat bar levers to Shimano STIs? I don’t really know what I’m doing with hydraulics so probs a job for my LBS. Would Shimano 10 speed STI be compatible with the Sram 10 speed MTB derailleur?
Or would I be better off sourcing Sram drop bar STIs and callipers? This is the route I’ve gone down so far but having a hard time finding much second hand.

I've got a Straggler post dropout update, so does have the forward facing thread on the drive side. Like you the skewer sits a bit further back for mudguard clearance. It is a bit of a pain having to remove the bolt when taking the wheel out, but it was already a tricky operation with the guards. So I'd say it only adds a small amount of extra inconvenience :-)

Getting rid of some tyres that are now surplus to requirements. Collection in N19 please! Could be persuaded to post the folding ones (all except the Schwalbes) which I imagine would be a couple of £.
First up, a pair of used Schwalbe off road tyres in 700x35 now surplus to requirements.
1 x Schwalbe Smart Sam
1 x Schwalbe CX CompNot sure how much use they've had, they came on a 2nd hand bike bought on here. The tread looks better on the Smart Sam. The CX Comp is more warn. (See pics).

Hi @C4r1s sorry for dredge did you end up selling these panniers? Let me know if not, they look like they might be just what I’m after! Cheers

I’m looking for a new pair of Shimano qr skewers for a disc frame with standard 100/135 spacing and I’m not sure how to figure out which are compatible. The hubs are Mavic if that makes a difference. I was looking on SJS and all the Shimano ones say they’re only compatible with specific Shimano hubs. Is that right? For example, could I use this for the rear? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/shimano-slx-fhm7000-quick-release-skewer-135mm-y39j98020/

Is anyone using panniers with the Pelago Rasket? I just went to install mine but they don't fit. The horizontal bar the panniers clip on to is too narrow, even with the clips on the pannier adjusted to the narrowest they'll go. It looks like the small Restrap panniers would work but ideally I'd find something a bit cheaper! Any ideas?

Hey thanks for this, all good to know. Yeah I suppose I’m the same in that I’d take the comfort of bigger tyres and mudguards over speed in winter so definitely prepared for it to be a bit slower than an all out road bike.
@beseku yeah that did cross my mind. However I’ve gone some gravel riding on 35mm tyres and spent quite a lot of it wishing I had wider tyres (probably a reflection of my rubbish gravel riding skillz more than anything!)
Oh interesting thanks. 10 speed GRX no good with the Deore callipers?
