Indeed that’s quite surprising, maybe the last remaining ! I believed 3 is enough to create an PR6000 owner club, right?
Well, thank you all for your insights. I’ve given some thoughts about it and I’ve decided to order 24k gold leaf to at least give it a try. I’ll see from there if I like it and if I should fix it for good. Will give you updates along the way 😎

I believe he did a 5 day bicycle building workshop at LaFraise Cycle. My gf booked me in for April next year. Can’t wait ! @SasenFrAsen btw was it really to short to add internal cabling for the frame?

Big shout out to my man @Elpolo for providing the frame. I know how hard it is to let go such a beauty but I promise to give the care it deserves ;)
@Simba you might be right as I recall reading somewhere varnish is somehow porous. Anyway the bike will not sleep outside so I think it’s going to be ok. Indeed, chromes are in great condition but scratched a lot for the paint to stick.
@rawspuds yeah love that seat bolt arrangement! Cool to see some people are enthusiastic about gold leafing. I’ve seen frames (mostly carbon) with gold leaf inside the paintjob but it is too much bling bling in my opinion. In my case I hope the rats look of paint chips will balance the bling.
Ok so I had some time today to do a thorough cleaning of the frame: 1. Clear water + soap 2. Magic eraser to clean inside the scratches 3. Autoglym super polish. Already looking better.

Recently put my hands on this marvellous Panasonic PR6000 frameset made from Tange Prestige OS Japan. It was the ex team bike of Menno Vink during the 1991 season at Panasonic-Sportlife NL team. Paintjob is rats, lacking huge patches around the fork crown, legs and top tube and the more expected smaller chips all around. I’d like to keep it original for obvious reasons, still I need to find a way to stop the massacrer if I want to be able to use it.
That’s when my last remaining neurons connected to remind me of the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi. It’s an art form in which you repair broken ceramics with gold to expose and embellish life scars, in contrast of hiding them (as we usually do).
I guess this pure Japanese horse has enough scars to qualify for a kintsugi style restoration. My plan is to buy real 24k gold leaf and fix all the missing chips and patches. By the way, does anyone has experienced playing with 24k gold leaf? I’ll need to find the correct mixture to fix it on the chrome plating. Then, I’ll apply some high gloss 2K varnish to seal it from the elements. Finally I’ll be building it around a Dura Ace period correct groupset.
So what do you think about it? Any input will be appreciated 🙂
Let’s see some before pictures:

Oh too bad ! Yeah the respray is crazy expensive, don't do that... Maybe you should find a guy who is willing to do it off the book for a good price. Don't loose hope, you've got a truly a marvellous bike that's highly collectible too (last frame sold for close to 3k$ on eBay).
By the way I just put my hands on a ex-team bike Panasonic Sportlife 1991 from rider Menno Vink. Sadly the paintjob suffered some loss mainly on the fork crown where the under layer of chrome is now exposed. I will seize this opportunity to restore it in a Kintsugi style with patch of gold leaves and varnish the whole frame again.
Can't wait to see yours back on the road again :)

@e54 sure for the rear, but the front is similar between road and track hub. I’m not very keen on selling these hubs since I need to figure out what I’d like to keep for my wheels first. Let’s talk in PM.
@Sig_Arlecchino you here ?! I know it doesn’t seems like I did some downsizing but trust me on that (or check the pictures). I used to have an online store for vintage bicycle parts but I quit last year so 80% of the parts in the pictures are gone, allowing me to pay my expensive rent in Paris. Sadly, I didn’t buy the MTB because someone offered more. Anyway I found myself a nice Mecacycle Turbo to restore.
@Tom13 yeah I know these kind of bikes can be fragile, especially when they have to bear the stress of cyclocross.
@Retro_Bastard right, the condition is amazing ! I think it’s from the early 90s given the serial. Mine was a custom order since it has the specific “Freuler” geometry on the head-tube. It was so that large frames could have a smaller main triangle for enhanced rigidity. I’ll be building it with Campagnolo Record from the era when I get my hands on it.

Thanks mate! Sadly I haven’t rode the Alan because it’s way too small for me. I don’t usually buy bikes that aren’t my size but this one was to nice to miss it. Do you mean that it didn’t flex enough?
Here is my only picture of the Master Olympic made of Columbus Gilco. I dismantled it to correct all small paint spot. Bike is sadly in the storage too…
-
Yeah that’s right DA would look nice too. I’ll decide when it’s in front of me :)
@Retro_Bastard @v11boy yeah thanks, that’s the result of 10 years collecting Mavic parts !
@Ndeipi like I said, most of my collection is in a friends storage so sadly there won’t be updates on that build for the time being.
@e54 well in fact I must have a dozen Mavic cartridges for 3G, mostly road rear. I think there’s no difference between a track and road, it’s just the skewers that change.
@thebikefelix yeah it’s the best colour scheme, right?

And since I know you guys loves to see nice framesets, here are some I've gathered along the years. Most of them are going to stay as futur projects until I find a bigger place t0 have them around. I will focus on building the titanium bike with a modern 11spds Chorus groupset so that I can ride it during the summer.
-
One of my favourite bike is this amazing Alan bike which is supposed to be a Super Record Competition all original from the first owner (even though he did change the wheels and the front derailleur). I've already sourced and mounted a Super Record front derailleur, and replace the brake cables adequately. I still need to figure out what to use for the wheelset. I'm lurking a pair of Campagnolo Victory rims on low flange Record hubs. Or I could relaced a pair of Champion du Monde rims on high flange Record hubs. Anyway this thing is a beauty, I'm actually exposing it on the wall of my living room .
Bike check:
- Alan Super Record Competizione frame
- Campagnolo Rally rear derailleur, real triple crankset + super record groupset
- Volare SLX saddle
- Cinelli bar and stem
- Wheelset is Wolber TX on C-Record hubs
- Alan Super Record Competizione frame

Ok let's go to the next project, a Bianchi Reparto Corse made of very high end Columbus TSX tubing. The bike came to me in miserable condition, I strongly believe it slept outside most of the time so the chrome were bad. With a lot of elbow grease I could get it back to stunning. I'm currently in the process of polishing it and taking care of all the paint marks on this Celeste robe.
I'm not sure about the build for that one, but since it's an italian bike I was thinking for a Campag Record 10sp groupset. Wheels undefined too. Perhaps Dura Ace 7700 would be better?
-
Then I’ve recently acquired this wonderful Eddy Merckx MXL "MX-Leader". I used to ride a yellow/orange version but it was a little bit small. I prefer much that pearly white anyway. It's currently build on a mix of Chorus parts but I would like to rebuild it with the first 9sp Record groupset, the one with aluminium brake levers.
-
So let's start with showing you some bikes I love in my collection. First of all is this superb custom made Gitane made of Columbus SLX. I really love this paintjob, and the condition is amazing. Next change will be to find a Campagnolo triple crankset, or to change the groupset with something more modern.
well 2 out / 1 in means you're still on the good slope to cure bike addiction ! thanks again for the pana :)
