Anyone seen any nice listings for a London commuterish bike? My rather non-bike savvy friend was about to drop £700 on a BLB 3sp and i told him I'd find him something much nicer. Everything else is open, single speed or geared, he's pretty stylish (ideally black) and prefers a slightly more relaxed position/geometry.

Any thoughts on this genesis I saw, £300 only downside is it's running an atlus derailleur which seems subpar for the pricetag.

Track frame, looks like a repray on one of those cheapo bianch pistas, any thoughts? Double checking before I get rid of it.

Anyone got a solid retro MTB frame they are up for selling for cheepy :-) not looking for anything particularly flashy, just decent steel and somewhere between 18-21 inches. I've got a fork for it, but don't mind if its a frameset. Cheers

This is very true. I think it's knowing the reality that it probably gets as much everyday/city use ,as touring use, so I feel drawn to bigger rings and more speeeed! Maybe I'll give it a miss and just get a 40t chainring to go on my current cranks for casual use and keep the 32 for loaded riding.

I think the rivals are 110bcd but I've got a feeling they aren't compatible with other 110 BCD rings because of the hidden bolt thing. I may be wrong.

Do these even exist or do I need to swap out my cranks for a 5 bolt? If anyone has any I'm very keen.

It was already a 1x set up, so I'm not too concerned about that, it's more the ring size jump, also the cranks I'm considering buying are sram, so probably not worth it if I have to buy a new chainring for them.

Anyone know what the deal is with sram cranks? Was thinking of picking some rival cranks, but the chainring is 42t which I'm thinking will probably leave my granny gear a bit high (apx 27 gear inches), as it's a cross/tourer ratty thing, so I'd have to swap it out for a 38 or something. A feel like I never see people running alternative brand chainrings with sram cranks though? Are sram spider cranks compatible with other chainrings or would I have to get a sram one? Cheers

In theory, although i'm struggling to find many affordable high quality chainrings above 36-38t with matching BCD, which is probably for a reason.

Exactly what I did, think my spam might even be a claud butler, or a Nigel Dean but it was striped when I got it. Picked it up for pennies and then built it up with second hand bought components, don't think the whole build cost me more than £200-250. Some nice wide rims and some 40c tyres and its so much fun.

Running 28s at the moment but you could probably squeez something something a tiny bit bigger on. Did see someone set it one up as a 1x tourer, looks like they put 30-32s on maybe.
