i'd go to avignon on the tgv. plane travel just not worth the risk with a bike...
i was working in cannes in october, took my bike, did the col de la madone on a day off (only took me twice as long as lance!). there were tons of people on the eurostar with bikes, going down to avignon to do ventoux. it was very civilised.
good training ride here

bought it. not too bad actually, frames fairly standard modern steel, 105 rear mech & brakes, wheels aren't much cop but will swap them for the dura pair I picked up a while back.
Down tube shifters though, is it much grief to switch to lever sti?
Also looks like I'm finally going to say good by to the fuji, reckon i'll get £120 for frame & fork?
my understanding is that all shimano groupset stuff is interchangeable below dura-ace. so you just have to check whether you have a 9/10/whatever speed cassette and buy a set of the correct sti levers of your preferred shade. then you need some cable guides to attach to the down-tube shifter braze-ons, which is easy peasy.
think this is all correct?
i am doing something similar with the coppi - although with campy, natch. shimano on a coppi would involve chucking binbags of puppies into a river. i couldn't do it, could you?
frame at colour tech ftw!

i'm in, barring any friends inconveniently getting married on that day, as they did last year.
done it geared, so will do it fixed this time. IMO anyone with a few miles in their legs and a hipflask full of HTFU juice will both be capable of doing it and also enjoy it.
BTW - is that the weekend of the start of the tour? could be EPIC
