Quick, it's the last first day of summer. Just enough daylight after work to ride a bike for 30k across some byways bridleways bike paths next to trunkroads through corn field monoculture uninhabited new build desert. Plums in the hedgerows unmolested by the locals, unopened dual carriageway not yet plumbed in. If we set off 30 minutes earlier we'd have finished 30 minutes earlier and could have got Burmese takeaway to take home, but well, maybe next time, if there is one.

Interestingly feel like one of the bike pack ing dot com people was saying they don't run tan wall tyres anymore because they find they leak sealant + lack sidewall protection, though they said there are "some exceptions".
Whatever the case, I would support your tyre brand as I am team black sidewall.

I have no idea about the above cairngorms loop, but there's this other cairngorms loop which seems much more chill looking at the video and the route.

I was going to do it but came unstuck looking for accommodation (didn't want to camp)

Don't have to weigh the panniers to know they weigh a kg tbh..
As I say normally I wouldn't care, as a percentage of loaded weight etc etc etc.
But surely if we're talking saving kg that might make SOME difference?
Anyway my sleeping bag has arrived, so ostensibly I'm ready for some camping overnighters to "dial in the kit"
I will cogitate on this today.

To clarify, these are NOT velo orange guards, I guess these were taken from some old roadster or something. The hardware is velo orange like so:

Ditto the stays

Now that I have all the luggage and all the racks and everything I have started staying up at night thinking about how heavy Carradice panniers are. Something like 2kg on the back, 1.3kg on the front (pair). Yes yes, expedition ready blah blah round the world blah blah tried and tested. I'm trying to ride roads in one of the most developed countries in the world for 3 weeks not round the world for 3 years.
I'm generally not that stressed about weight and like to just get well known things I can easily find second hand. But strapping these kinds of numbers on the bike (not including racks and swapping the fork for steel) is kind of giving me pause. I think I need to get my pack list sorted, load it up, and see where I can trim some fat. If I can keep the pack size small enough that I don't need to take two big Carradice on the back, that will be pretty great.
Another option I guess is to buy lighter pannier bags, Vaude and Altura look to have some stuff. I would rather not buy something new, so it would rely on me getting lucky on ebay. Also everyone knows that the best thing to do is reduce the amount you take, rather than buy ultralight versions of things.
If I could afford a tailfin I would just use the money to spend 6 weeks in Japan not 3, so please no one mention that cursed name.

Guards are 47mm wide BUT I think they are for a smaller than 700c wheel size.
I bought these guards from eBay, bought the v o attachment stuff from fresh tripe. I managed to fit the front guard over a 45c actual front tyre, then tried the rear but couldn't get it to work. Both guards are drilled for the vo stays but sadly I did cut the stays so can't guarantee they will be long enough for you. They will also come with them original stays which go under the guards and therefore have worse clearance.
I think they would look really good re radiused to 26 maybe, or on some kind of slim 650b set up, but they are not going to be a one cup of tea am hour before bed type installation.
