I’m pretty sure it’s just the small frame size and short head tube making the top tube look longer. If you look at the old catalogs:

The Saeco CAAD 4 I accidentally bought on eBay arrived. I have stripped it, looks really good except for a tiny bit of paint bubbling on the headtube and fork crown, and a few other scratches. Frame and fork are definitely solid. I don’t usually like red bikes but this one is great! It is a frame size 52 so I’m just slightly worried it is a tiny bit too big for me, but I will wait and see.
It came complete with almost all the original parts including CODA hubs, brakes and cranks. I have no need for these, in case anyone needs them I have advertised them here:

Plan is for a rebuild probably with SRAM Rival, Mavic Ksyriums and maybe a carbon seatpost, I will post updates...

Hello everyone
I recently acquired a 2001 Cannondale CAAD 4 R600. I will be rebuilding it so have no need for the components. I rode it once with these parts, they all work ok. They are mostly the original spec as far as I can see from comparing it with the catalogue from that year, so may be of use to restore another old Dale, or just as cheap / beater parts. They are all well used so quite dirty, especially drivetrain bits. I have got the worst of the grime off but they may need further cleaning.
Pictures to follow below. Just these bits left now:
Rear derailleur: Shimano 105 5500 9 speed medium / long cage. Scratched and dirty but works ok, one of the jockey wheels is quite worn. Should work with Shimano 9 speed MTB stuff too.
£6Stem: Cannondale alloy 1 1/8 Ahead 26mm clamp 90mm centre to centre. Couple of scratches and bolts are a bit rusty.
£5Collection in London NW3 please. Could possibly meet more central, Kings X / Euston, Holborn or Paddington areas maybe. I can post within UK.

Seller said 52cm, but I’m not sure if that is the frame size, or a rough measurement either TT, or ST c-c / c-t. Took a punt anyway cos I’m quite small, 52cm c-t is the upper limit for a size I can ride. I thought it was too good to miss, it’s such a great frame and looks to be in excellent condition. I will post updates, and if it’s too big I will advertise it for sale here!

Yes the Z era Peugeots are so good. I have seen a few higher end steel frames around with similar paint jobs (including one on here a few months ago I think) but never in my size.
And thanks, I am getting better and hopefully will be back at work within the next few months. Cycling is definitely helping my recovery, although my fitness has gone and I’m a bit feeble right now...

Having built all these bikes for other people I thought I deserved one for myself. This is a Peugeot 753 Pro from the late 80s I think, another one bought on this forum. Really light and great to ride. Built with SRAM Red and Mavic wheels. I rode this a lot last autumn but I am currently in the process of rebuilding it with Dura Ace 9000 which suits the bike much better. I will post a new pic when its finished.

Another really nice frame built for my other sister's BF. Peugeot from around 1986, Reynolds 531. Model decal says Aneto, its a PY-10 or similar, bought on here. He's quite new to cycling so we built it with flat bars for town riding. New wheels, 2nd hand Tiagra groupset but an 80s crankset to keep the retro look. Changed the tyres to 25mm Vittorias after this picture was taken!
