To stop the whole assembly sliding round the bars and dropping forward when it's heavy/you hit a bump. Probably easiest to put the two main clamps on, then undo one end of the wire, loop it under the stem, and re-fasten it.

This bag looks great @King_Saxlingham - a bright/light inner is such a good idea for any bag, I don't know why more bagmakers including the big brands don't do it. Tempted to get one for a Wald - do you think this would also be rigid enough to sit on top of a flat rack without flopping about (if strapped down obviously)? Cheers

This programme sounds like a heap of dangerous turd, but it's on Channel 5 - I don't think any random neutrals are going to watch it and think 'those cyclists, who I'd never really considered before, are awful and I must start behaving like a twat towards and around them' - it'll probably be watched by a few mouth-breathers who already think like that, or a very few reasonably-minded people who think 'wtf is this, cycling is a Good Thing'.

Ha I had that one year...

I guessed wrongly. I mean it was a road, it probably would have been fine and gone somewhere and ended up in the right direction, but I did turn around after 1km or so and a good few people followed me back the way we'd come. Past other people still heading down my erroneous lane. Missing it this year, enjoy!
