Over lockdown I decided to clear my parts bin / garage - instead of selling all the gubbins (which would have been the wiser move prolly) I opted to build bikes around the components I had. Principally two wheelsets - a standard mach 1 pair from a hybrid and a 27 1 1/4 SA 3 speed retro pair from freemans. I was impatient and ebayed a Dawes ladies hybrid and a Falcon in a nice pearl creme colour. Here are the results.

Yea think so - 800 cabinet + 80 leg/plinth (skirting) + 30/40 Worktop = 910-920 which is standard work height. Bear in mind Ikea use a smaller plinth than others (more typically 150) and no “service void” behind so you need to make sure if you have any horizontal service runs they do so underneath (within the 80mm).

Most road frames up to the 90s ish will have forward facing dropouts with enough travel to tension the SS chain. If your wheel OLD is less than the dropout spacing (126/130) then yes you’ll need spacers. Bear in mind adding spacers ‘correctly’ requires a set of hub spanner’s to remove the outer lock nuts without buggering up the bearing setup. Then choose a Bb length to get the right chain line - which is usually a trial and error plus some maths process( in my experience ) unless you know the BB length/chainline of the chain set you’re using. It’s all doable and I’ve done it but there is simplicity in using a track frame and wheel with an OLD to match. But then it’s also a matter of frame geometry, what you want to ride and what is available to you.

I think hozelock do a brass fitting that will screw into a tap if it's threaded internally. Alternatively you might look at modifying one of these - I 'carved' the yellow plastic window with a dremel to allow it to fit over a chunky vola style tap. Cant see why this wouldn't work especially if you remove the tap lever section first. Fugly mind ;-)

As a semi-natural product it isn't as 'durable' as fake wood/tile Vinyl floors like karndean / amtico . I think in living / hall spaces etc it will stand up pretty well - probably take on micro scratches from shoe grit and dull a little over time - similar to a solid wood finish like bona. In bathrooms (depending on colour) it can stain around a loo from wee splash and then fade out if you counter act that with bleach ! - thats a 7-10yr kind of issue. You do need a good flat screed .
