There's a pretty strong argument to be made that pop music has declined in quality a great deal, due to commercial pressures... The drive to more efficiently commodify it over decades has resulted in demonstrably simpler and more generic stuff dominating the charts, and then there's also the fact that the video which goes with it tends ever more to sell the song (consider the difference in accessibility between MTV and YouTube). Folks also tend to listen to music via some relatively crappy speakers these days, with poor to nonexistent channel separation and no bass.
Music per se is totally in a position to be better than ever, but the good stuff is increasingly unlikely to be the most popular stuff.

You only need the cable hole to hold it in the right spot, not so much the part for the head of the cable...
But if it's cracked and deformed there too, my thought was perhaps a route for some wire (around 1mm) could be made through it to hold it together, and the wire could be twisted tight and tucked away on the inner side.

Easier still, just carefully apply a tight layer or two of sellotape around the crown seat - if you can get the right thickness so that the tape gets compressed without being smooshed down and caught under the bottom face, you're golden. You have to do it in multiples of almost a complete wrap of course, to keep it centred (leave a little gap at the end instead of overlapping), but you can fine-tune the thickness to some extent by the amount you stretch the tape.
Aluminium tape can also work, but without the stretching.

Us colonials can be backwards as fuck...
There was a Saturday night variety show last century that went for decades and was hugely popular... Then in 2009 there was a couple of reunion specials, and talk of it restarting a regular run, but that ran off the rails when we totally mortified Harry Connick. We didn't realise what racist fucks we were until the internet, with half of us still refusing to smell the coffee to this day.
