And full disclosure: When my agency colleagues took up loan schemes, I'd previously had the experience as a permie of an annual bonus being paid that way, and the very large employer then having to pay everyone's tax on it (probably many £ 10 millions) when HMRC found out.

Yes, you have to be pretty naïve to not smell a rat when you are told you're being paid by being loaned money that you never need to repay, and so no tax is due. Although the employers were agencies, not government.

If you get a £1k payrise from £100k to £101k you first get taxed at 40% on the £1k (leaving £600) and then you lose £500 off your tax-free income.

Am I really the first dullard to point out that all these calculations confuse salary with taxable income, and so only apply if you aren't making any pension contributions?

The insides of the track ends on my CAAD Track are becoming eroded. I think most Al track frames have little steel plates on both inside and outside, but annoyingly they're only on the outside on this frame... anyone seen/heard of a solution?

Edit: you can see wear from two pairs of wheels there, one with serrated locknuts, and one with flat locknuts which I'm sure cause less damage. I think I'll replace the serrated locknuts with flat ones.
