100% agree, i've been watching specialized serius, bmc, giants and orbeas to do the same thing.

Thats a safe bet, I personally have smaller hands so my favourite grips are the 2000s camp models.
I have mostly 9 or 10s campa as I don't do huge rides thats perfect for me, and i have had a few Frankenstein dailys using a mix of campy parts, best result was modern mirage (2010 ish) with long cage and shim cassette

I think its the last gen Centaur ultratorque groupset came with a compact chainring in 110bcd and a long mech at the rear.
Campa only started making bigger cassettes recently of course but adding a shim/sram cassette could work we've all done it before 😉

Yeah i mean as @Lampman says i'd rather sacrifice the extra sprocket and get one of the last variations of centaur/chorus groupsets and keep the money to spend on a nicer frame and wheels.

Not a bad result ! I think with time you can work on integrating the cables in a nicer fashion as you say its a bit busy, but if its all working as it should thats already a big win !

Unfortunately yes ! Paint has chipped around mine so will give them a refresh, inspection and then quick repaint in the hope that they don't give out any time soon.
But i have 2 other 2004 bstay colnagos and so far haven't had any issues touch wood

Some of the later quill stems had a second bolt that would allow you to open the angle a bit, and towards the peak of the ergo bars there were a few hinged or opening quill stems as everything transitioned to ahead stems.

You can probably get some compact style ones through a quill but not an ultra compact. And careful when spreading the stem not to stress the metal to much but definitely the best way to do it !

In thats case i wouldnt worry about tension, most rubberised electric cables will hold there tension if you pull them tight

But how much give do the electric cables need ? I have never worked on a electronic groupset but I thought the wires only powered it right ?
Indeed if they do move like regular cables then yeh tension will be a problem...

I mean if it's relatively low voltage, theres plenty of small gage electric cables around, and in that case i would just run the cables like traditional cables, you'd get the classic look with similar thickness.

What kind of voltage is the groupset i know there are some electric cables used for lighting and LED systems that are pretty slim and have transparent sleeving.
I mean depends how far you want to go with all this, tbh i would just find and old TCR or something at this point!

I mean its your choice really the question will always be does the frame deserve such a groupset, and i think only you can decide on that, i would probably gor retro potenza or athena as you already have to get that all silver look.

Haha yes "exciting" is one way of putting it.
It is probably worth weighing up if the frame is worth altering for the modern groupset, or if it not worth just getting something else you wont regret drilling into.

What frame are you planning to use again ?
Could be that you just need to carefully drill some holes and buy some of those small plastic cable entry/exit grommets that you see on modern bikes.
Might have to think about it a bit but i'm sure its doable with a bit of planning
