Hi. Thanks for your reply. I think actually I may be misnaming them as cantilever brakes. I think correctly they are centre-pull brakes (see image), and I am after side-pull brakes.
I would be happy to buy the Weinmann brakes, providing the reach is OK. I will check this evening and let you know - thanks for the information. -
I have a 70s Peugeot that I am in the process of converting to a single speed, whilst trying to keep the cost as low as pos. So if anyone has the following that they would be keen to sell, or alternatively any recommendations for good value new stuff, please let me know.
-Single speed rear wheel: after a vintage-looking wheel, for want of a better word.
-Brakes: currently have cantilever and want to replace with calliper brakes.
-Brake levers: after silver 'BMX' style brake levers.

Hi,
I'm after a road bike for my brother. Like most people at the moment he just needs a bike to get from A to B, so he's not very picky (and also doesn't understand much about bikes!) Ideally I think a 10ish year old aluminium road bike would be perfect for him, but I'm open to whatever (steel bikes, single speeds).
Max budget is £250, but preferably would like to do it a little cheaper than that. Perfect size would be around 54, but again have some flexibility with that.
We're both based in London so can pick up here, or am open to posting, if people are able to do so OK at the moment.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I have a Specialized Allez (I think 2006). Unfortunately a few months back someone kindly stole the forks and headset from the bike. I have now bought a new bike but would quite like to get this one back on its feet if possible.
I have recently bought some second-hand forks for it, but I am a little clueless when it comes to headsets. I am trying to work out what type I have and replacement parts I need to get . I unfortunately can't find much information on the bike's specs.
I have attached a couple of photos of the bikes head tube. Am I correct in saying the cups are still present and I need to buy a semi-integrated headset?
Cheers,

Oh really? Think perhaps my knowledge on cracksets is a bit dated and generally deficient. I've always thought that standard vs compact involved different BCDs.
Ah yes, have just looked it up and ultegra uses 110 for all? OK, that is definitely good to know for pos switching to a compact down the line. -

Hi,
I recently bought boardman road pro carbon slr 2014 second-hand. Unfortunately, the bike comes with quite a limited gear ratio, running 53/39 on the front and 11-25 at the back, and it has an ultegra 6800 short cage rear derailleur (whole groupset is ultegra 6800). I am basically looking for a relatively cost effective way to increase the gear ratio.
In terms of what I want from gears, I live in London and ride regularly but only casually. Obviously the hills are not bad here at all, however on the last few rides I've been on, on steep sections the burn has been pretty considerable on 39/25! Outside of lockdown I would usually do approx fortnightly 100km rides to Kent, which is obviously more hilly but not exactly the Pyrenees. I would just quite like a ratio that would permit me to stay in the seat more and maintain a higher cadence.
So from what I've read, these are my options - although I'm no expert at this, so please correct me if I'm wrong anywhere:
1) Buy an 11-30 cassette - the short cage derailleur I believe can only handle up to 30 teeth (I think Shimano technically says 28, but apparently 30 should be doable) - price approx £35
2) Buy an 11-32 cassette and medium cage derailleur - I think from what I've read the shimano medium cages can handle a 53/39 and 11-32 at the back, although I'm not 100% on this. Price approx £70. This is with buying the 105 R7000 medium cage rear derailleur. I would love to maintain all ultegra, but feel it is a little expensive, however any advice on the differences between them, and any limitations of mixing would be appreciated.
3) Buy a compact crankset and a cassette and possibly a medium cage derailleur - I can get the 105 R7000 compact crankset for around £90 and then would be obvs be the cassette/derailleur cost on top of this. Again any advice on ultergra/105 differences/compatibility.I know there's not really a question in there, but any advice you guys could offer would be very much appreciated!
Cheers

I am attempting to replace my small chainring on a bike that runs an 8 speed shimano set up. I have found one a tiagra chainring on ebay that is categorised as a 10 speed chainring, so i just wondered whether this will work without problems on my bike? From what I have read the 8/9/10 chainrings run the same distance between the teeth - but I just wanted to double-check it will be OK.
Thanks.

OK, so to the best of measuring ability, the reach is 56/57 mm (centre of hole to centre of rim).
The bike is a Peugeot PX10. Yeh I do suspect that doing a ss conversion on this bike might exasperate the purists! (especially as it is very well maintained components wise). I have been after the bike in my size, this colour for a few years, always with the intention of converting it and was finally able to pick it up on ebay. Since getting it I have been considering keeping it as it, as it certainly does ride very nicely - but overall am still feeling inclined towards conversion.
