i know, you're right, small chainring is not as aesthetically pleasing, but it's the best for me. this is not my race bike.
Josh got it right, all weather, all day, all country, all everything, but descends, i don't have to push at 40kmh and this gearing (34x12-28) gives me the comfort of 11-36 kmh at cadence of 90 rpm on 30mm tyres, no big/reasonable jumps between gears, just efficiency to get me where ever i want. also designed to take a big saddle bag for intercity overnights 150k+, only way i would swap is a 40/28 road crankset option, ultra compact
cheers to everyone on that 1x bullshit do/don't, for me this works perfect

Tektro Oryx with beefy Kool Stops works, had to file 1mm. It's fine. Always depends on the frame, rim width, brake pads
Fork is Disc Trucker.
Back brake is what it is. The front is where it's at. The bike in general is perfect for me and its purpose. Fork and frame work really nice.
