I feel your pain had a similar experience at a mates house, went there prepared to hang some curtain rails and my mate Dave decided to help and take the old brackets out before I arrived, his thinking was why use a screwdriver when one has a clawhammer, your pic's are almost a replica of what I was greeted with, to be fair these were Dave's smoking days, good luck with the repairs

Yes I know what he meant lol, the point I was trying to make from my experience of planting treees, with added stuff and different methods like one tries, I simply find that staking and planting to the right height are far more important than adding bonemeal fungi etc, I'm not saying they don't work or help but you can plant a tree without and get perfect results, I do believe that with too much goodness in the planting hole doesn't encourage the roots to spread out, cheers
