Hey!
Thought this project might be of interest to some of you.
Like much of the UK, the North York Moors was a much nicer place for cyclists to be during the lockdowns. I also found myself with a bit more time on my hands, so I started working alongside a few others on a cycling zine that we hoped would celebrate the routes, roads and cyclists of the area.
We want to show others why it’s such a great place to ride a bike. It’d also be great if cycling could offer an alternative to grouse hunting as the main reason to visit…
So far, the response has been encouraging. Copies are being distributed for free within the moors, but we’re hoping to fund a second volume through a few sales. In case you’re interested, the mag includes:
• 6 route guides, 2 featuring gravel and 1 bikepacking route
• Interviews with Lizzie Deignan, Harry Tanfield and Clare Nattress
• A piece by Leeds based Black Cyclists Collective about representation in the sport
• Articles by authors Jack Thurston & Simon Warren on cycling in the area
• A photo essay about Gus Morton's Coast to Coast ride
• Essays on the area, its topography and its role as a climate sink
It’s all carbon offset and a quid from each sale is going toward the Bike Project, Rewilding Britain and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We went on sale today and if you’re interested you can find out more at northriding.cc or @northriding.cc on insta.
Cheers!

I'm currently teaching in an international primary school in Tokyo and we've been doing 'distance learning' for three weeks now. From a teacher's perspective these are a few things we've found have worked:
Seesaw for KS1 kids
Google Classroom for KS2
Flipgrid for uploading and creating videos/films
IXL*
Virtual Fieldtrips
RAZkids**not free
Obviously, being able to access these depends on families having enough devices for their kids. Having taught in Peckham for 6 years, I'm well aware that many households don't. Even in an international school this has proved an issue, let alone the fact that 3 - 4 hours additional screentime a day is not ideal.
Nonetheless, we've set up a fairly loose timetable for the kids. In the first few days, lots of parents took the opportunity to travel, so we've ended up with kids at different points in their work. Each day we're providing an English, Reading and Maths lesson through Google Classroom, which follows the usual structure of what we do in school. Japanese, Music and PE teachers are also providing two lessons a week for kids. We've been uploading videos of us doing the work (the screencastify add on to chrome has been a life-saver) and making google forms/docs for the kids to work through.
We're also doing a whole class chat in Google Meet every day, and are encouraging kids to check in with us to review work once every couple of days. I do only teach 10 kids though.
It's by no means perfect but the feedback from the kids and their parents has been pretty positive. The thing I'm worrying about most for kids here is their well-being, but for those Peckham kids I'd also be worried about their access to food. I hope school kitchens can find a way to stay open.
If there are any teachers on the forum that want to chat anything through, please do get in touch as I've now got some KS2 resources I could send your way. In the meantime, we're due to reopen on the 30th March...

Moving to Tokyo means I can't really justify keeping my 56cm Bowman Palace:R in a garage for two years.
It's one of the 60 Matt Black and Gloss Black produced by mistake in 2017. It's a wonderful frameset and the same as the one that won the road.cc Frameset of the Year in 2017. It's been a great bike: extremely quick, great handling and a pleasure to ride on the climbs. Wear-wise, it has the usual scuffs and scratches, and a 10cm scratch on the toptube (see picture below). Geometry can be found here.
I'm looking for SOLD.
All the components have plenty of life in them but, due to the impending move, I won't be able to split. Parts listed below:
• Vision Team 35mm
• Clement LCV tanwall tyres (25mm)
• Sram Rival 22
• Crankset 34/50
• Cassette range 11-32
• Fizik Cyrano seat post and stem
• Fabric Scoop Saddle
• Manual for Speed Tape
• Pedals can stay or goI live in Peckham so am happy to meet somewhere central, or if you'd prefer you can pick it up. Paypal or cash on collection.
Any questions or photo requests please feel free to get in touch
