They are looking for people to check the route using the route sheet, the gpx, or both - as that's what people will be using on the day.
I route checked 1a North which meant I followed the route and emailed them a few comments about dodgy gpx track points and got a nice reply. No route sheet required.

You can't ride the same road in the same direction more than once (although in practice no one cares about a few hundred meters between junctions).
I've ridden a 200k which was the London Sightseer clockwise then anti-clockwise. But 2x clockwise would have been against the rules.
If the route starts and finishes in the same place it should be AAA in either direction!

Camberwell New Road isn't that nice, but it does have a bus lane so you move along it pretty fast.
Most of the alternatives I've tried in that area suffer from impatient rat-run traffic which feels very unsafe by comparison. Would love to know if there is a better way from Camberwell to Oval though.
There's a number of junction changes being planned to protect the route from Myatts Field to Kennington Park which may help calm down the back streets a bit.

London's Register of roadworks has this:
Baylis Road - Excavate and remove kerb line. Relocate street furniture. Contruct new separated cycle lane. Install new traffic signals. Resurface carriageway.
Westminster bridge - Realigned kerb, footway renewal, c'way raised, rearranged signalised ped crossing.
Carlisle Lane / Upper Marsh - Repave footway and c'way to flush level, reverse direction of flow.
Seems to be part of some bigger changes to the area around Lambeth North Station to make it more cycle / pedestrian friendly.

8 puts you on the main road at night and the scenic route during the day.
Section 1 avoids Ware for afternoon starters. Presumably something around there is pretty nasty on a Sunday afternoon.
A lot of riders with good local knowledge have been debating the route for years so the quality should be very good, but what's optimal for 1,500 riders won't necessarily be optimal for you.

Yikes. Where do you live, Siberia? Plus that's about £800 worth of kit.
For anything down to about -5, I wear bib longs, merino t-shirt, winter jersey, soft shell jacket, packable rain jacket (if wet), winter gloves, overshoes, merino buff.
Agree with your merino socks selection 100% though. Worth the money. Also thinking about some winter boots while they are on sale.

I am currently commuting by bike in Singapore and the number of deep-section carbon wheels and aero frames on the park connector (cycle path) network is pretty impressive.
It also seems that many people have been given electric scooters for Christmas. They go at 20-25mph so are quite good fun to chase down.

I don't think there's much new here since the consultation results were published.
It's not a perfect scheme, but it does look better than what's there now.
Making the ped crossing from the station to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens a single step instead of two separate crossings with awful timing is especially welcome.
Right now lots of people run across a three lane road on a blind corner... can't be long before that causes an accident.
I'm currently in Vietnam where everyone ignores all the rules. Mopeds everywhere, in every direction, on every side of the road (and pavement).
I saw a working pedestrian crossing light for the first time last night. It went green. Nothing else changed - certainly nothing slowed down to allow people to cross.
Be careful of what you wish for.
