New framebag courtesy of @fabric and @spotter fits my MTB like a glove. Cheers both

@veLLo cheers :) hoping to have it finished by the weekend and take some better pictures. Yeah they do indeed

Started putting the Mercian together. Thought I did a decent job on the BB and headset but both have play. Not sure in my £4 ebay adjustable cup spanner or me is the real tool and with the headset, suspect I didn't tighten the first top bit down enough by hand before sliding everything else on and nipping down the lockring. Other annoying thing was the stem. I had to pay a shop to get out in the end and it is now deciding not to slot in easily.
-
@AlexD yeah was really good and do it! Excited for group rides soon hopefully
-
@veLLo eclectic, functional and lovely cheers. How did you know the mech would do 8 speed?
-
-
-
@veLLo what are the cranks/shifters? Also looks like an old deore mech - is it like 8 speed at the back?
-
Scored a new lockdown project and it just happens to be a clichéd GT 26er for like £50 on marketplace locally. My old Raleigh pub bike on P1 is too small really so will find a new home for that. GT has allegedly done 100 miles and is 10 years old. Don't really care about that - main thing is it's my size!
-
Mercian all ready to be built up once I get a few bits and bobs from some local shops tomorrow (seat collar bolt, new stem cable guide and bits like that which were too far gone). My touching up wasn't great but it'll do. Not done a full build so quite hard excited to see how it goes - next update should be it done hopefully
If anyone has an appropriate set of flat pedals, a nice 5 speed mech or some metal mudguards for sale please lmk :) -
Thanks @spotter pm incoming ref frame bag @fabric

@Tychom cheers for this :) and in line with @jupiz 's point if I need the seat far back (perhaps with layback post), bars could be very far away. I don't know anything about fit and if I need a seat relatively far back. Think test riding it is the best thing to do but even then I'm sure it'd be comfy for 10km or so you can do on a test ride
-
@johnnettles2 nice bike :)
-
@jupiz ah thanks so much for this! Feel bad hijacking the thread but it is Mercian related...
Seller sent the build sheet and is happy for me to test ride it. Angles are 74 and 74.5 (is the 74.5 H/T?) Seller's inside leg is 37” to the floor.Genesis fit wise I have no idea. I have it with a normalish length stem and a slightly layback post and it is too long for me I think. Did 90km at the weekend and it was fine, slightly stiff back but I think that is my fault for sitting at a desk all day and not stretching
-
@jupiz ah cheers. Frame angles 74 degrees & 74.5 degrees it says on the advert. Also:
Seat tube, centre of BB to very top of tube = 63.0cm
Seat tube, centre to centre = 60.5cm
Top tube, centre to centre = 60.5cm
Head tube measured inside inner edge of headset cups/outside outer edge = 19.7cm/22.7cm
Chain stay, centre to centre = 41.0cm
Seat stay, centre to join with seat tube = 55.0cmHow do I know if I need a decent amount of setback? Does it being built for someone who runs minimal setback mean they have relatively short legs? Might try and organise a test ride when the rules/ my personal circumstances allow it
-
@swedeee cheers :) Have been in for cables/stuff and they did me a new BB, new rear axle and hub service, new (used) chainset for like £70 all in on the raleigh on page 1. Adam served me and was super helpful with advice. I also sent my non-cyclist mate a road bike they posted for sale on Monday, she had a really positive experience buying it and they will adjust seat/put a shorter stem on if she needs it when she's ridden it for a couple of months.
Planning to start volunteering when its back open for new volunteers and get bikes to donate from people I work with.
-
@nejib thanks :) I have heard good things on here and did pop in to chat to them about wheels briefly, ended up going for some from Ryan @ Ryan Builds Wheels. They also did sort my flatmate out a new wheel on his mtb for like £70 + £10 fitting which is fair enough. Having said that, one of my mates got charged £4 for 2 limit screws there and £20 for a shit old rear mech which he ended up getting from Bike Project for a fiver. That is extremely anecdotal though, small beer and I imagine bike shops get a bit gruntled with low value requests/favours like that.
Do still need a few of those bits so will try there, Ben's and Bike Project.

@AlexD Cheers :) I am actually self-isolating now for min 10 days from Monday 11th so won't be soon :(
Mercian is finished...
