@horsee1 thanks that is really helpful. So in the hundreds region. I still rent but in my search when sharing a potential place the first thing people point out is an asbestos garage. Seems like people put a lot of emphasis on it when if it can be fixed for that much, in the grand scheme of a house price it isn't that much at all? Or is that naive/blissful ignorance?
I think with that garage would get it removed first then, then look at making it less unattractive and getting a decent secure garage door for my bikes
-
@horsee1 will take a look at that cheers but probably still got to pay someone to remove it?
-
@swedeee ah fair - ignore me.
-
-
@AlexD cheers :)
-
@ChainBreaker got in while ago - so will be up significantly (I think I read that)
-
Just read the last week of this and what stood out was how sickening Robinhood are (and anyone else who has done that) and congrats to @swedeee
-
What's a really rough ball park figure for sorting out a garage with aspestos and fitting a more secure garage door than this? Cheers
-
@AlexD ah no worries cheers anyway :)
Something like in this picture I think. I do have a generic pair of mtb bars that are super wide but not much rise and such a ball ache getting bars that wide into my house.
-
@AlexD looks ace! Are you still running the stock wheels and is that just a generic quill to ahead adapter from ebay? Think I need a 1" one for my GT
-
Brooks wise I found a photo of how it should look underneath. Will nip the bolt up as much as possible and hope it holds.
On a brooks generally, what is the recommended adjustment on the nose bit? I think my leather snapped because it worked loose but I've read they can do the same from being nipped up too tight
-
@AlexD not really sure to be honest. Very different to anything I've ever properly ridden.
Your giant is ace!
If I'm using it a lot then and it's justifiable it will likely get better wheels, cranks, stridsland chainring, 8/9 speed mech just as and when cheap and decent parts come up. Will get new cockpit sooner than that I think. Have you got a spare quill to ahead adapter, BMX stem and some upright bars by any chance? -
-
Not exciting but cleaned the GT up, ditched the grim saddle, ditched the kick stand. It will get a new chain, brake pads, brake cables and jockey wheels. Not going to do much to it - not worth it beyond fitting the above for now.
Rear wheel is really gritty so might service that.
Was also thinking about chainrings. There is 39mm between the adjacent holes which doesn't have an obvious bcd on Sheldon's crib sheet. They look to come as a unit of 3 chainrings so maybe not that easy to go for a 1x setup on this crank
-
@veLLo yep that makes sense cheers and nice diagram :)
First I might try and just clamp the nose back on and accept the slit in the middle. Not sure if that will work - will look shit but if it works... Failing that, I will try the above -
@wadi2 'used - like new'
-
@veLLo wdym sorry? To fasten it down and make it like a stubbier saddle?
-
-
-
@russmeyer thanks :)
Yeah - hopefully not too much for a second hand brooks and can get some nicer/maybe more period correct cranks -
@veLLo cheers :) Was chatting to someone about the pedals and he said something along the lines of all recent mks pedals use the same architecture and end caps, but this one is unique and older. At 1.99 will just try it next time I need to order something. If you look at that last photo, it is smaller and it just pushes in.
Gutted about the Brooks. Will see what it looks like bolted back together but probably need a new one. Cotton tape and shellac is a good shout. I just had this £5 tape lying about -
-
@kjlem looks lovely. What brakes did you go for?
