@M_V I was just chatting to mechanic who recommended doing this on any new / used brooks
-
@AlexD Facebook. Chuffed!

The Mercian will be for sells soon I think. Can't really justify keeping a bike that's too small for me. My thinking is my commute is 2-3 days a week max since WFH became a thing, 7k each way, so could do that on a 26er with a front rack/guards. Genesis CDF can then lose the rack and guards and be lighter/more all-road focused.
Having 3 is dooable and if time/space/funds allow get a designated road bike and a vintage Mercian in my own size (I have a soft spot for them)

Found a nos/unused 26er wheelset locally on Facebook marketplace. Hope hubs, Dt swiss spokes and these campag mirox rims. Rims seem quite narrow and I don't know much about wheels, but the price was too good to not get them. Is that freehub 8/9 speed does anyone know? The GT is likely to get these, new cranks, 1x shifter/mech, some v brakes, front rack and then fit the more modern cockpit I'm working on. Or it might stay stock and then wait for something more special to crop up and go full @t0-ster using the above recipe
-
@pit cheers. Would you recommend them for their servicing? They are 30 min drive away ish from me
-
@nejib ah great thanks so this black line is the route from the long ashton crossroads to the bridge? The bit I have circled is the main pain
-
@ChainBreaker have a flick through the second half!

Book on financial independence which is UK focused. First half is a bit wishy washy on career stuff but the second half will pay for itself many times over and is where it gets into the financial bit -
@nejib which uni building? I have not!

Appreciate I could google this and get confident with an answer looking at a few sources but easier to ask here and I very often get good advice here so here goes:
Maintaining fork and dropper stanchions. I keep my bike clean, but so far have never actually oiled/lubed/treated the stanchions. Is there a forum approved product? Cheers -
@MicroDosed™ nope. Is that the answer? Will buy u beer if so.
Not been here that long so just picking routes out of here http://www.uobcc.com/routes.htmlThe Portishead Clevedon route is especially nice IMO
-
@tomasito please can you stick details in here?
On a separate note, every road ride I do at the moment comes back through Ashton Court and it is not ideal dodging prams/dogs/kids (not being a scrooge, and I ride it considerately, but it is a pain)

@LHL keen - possibly this weekend - shoot me a PM? Got this on my to do list too https://www.komoot.com/smarttour/174662
And cheers on the advice - going to leave it for now -
@tenderloin cheers - I think that is the right call. Will keep my eye on it though on the off chance it goes down. Estate agent, who wasn't well informed (said it hadn't been lived in for years but the neighbours next door say it had been rented out until very recently), said due to the where the estate divvying up is that it'll be min 8 weeks. So the prospective buyer might miss the stamp duty holiday I think which won't help the seller.
-
@Howard yeah I follow that. Wonder what happened to it and if it sold, or if they are regretting rejecting it.

@chrisbmx116 @konastab01 was chatting to the neighbours non-flue side and they were a really nice recently retired couple.
Also chatting to the guy over the road, who was a builder working on his own house. Spoke to him for about 30 mins about the whole thing. From speaking to both of them, the couple paid about 420 with the loft already done. And then spent loads doing more to it. So unfortunately I think it'll go close to asking price which would eat a lot of the do it up budget. Will keep my eye on it from a distance -
@bq @chrisbmx116 that is quite the list. Perfectly done might get 380 for it now based on my estimates of the area - so if got it for 280 could be slightly in the green. Lots of risk. And then you'd still be looking at a shit extension with a shit plastic chimney flue
-
@konastab01 yeah it is not nice at all. The front of their house looks nice and it did look well maintained from that side.

Also advised that my repair plan to glue the nose on this old broken one and refit the bolt isn't going to work. He was finally saying that the leather on the older models is much better which is a view someone shared a few pages back
