what's the slightly GC pre amp / DAC / ADC that @Velocio has?
one of these maybe?
-
something has gone wrong with my digital replay. just played some vinyl which is fine so it's definitely the digital source which has a load of crackle and glitching type noises.
the set up is:
Laptop running Roon, ethernet cable broadband router, local library on a NAS, Tidal streaming via Roon;
Laptop plugged into stand alone USB DAC;
DAC to pre-amp via RCA connectors.I'm guessing the problem will be the fairly old HP laptop. The DAC is also old, but no reason to think that should be life expired, it's a decent quality bit of kit.
So i'll fiddle around and isolate the issue but it's making me think I could simplify the set up a bit maybe? Also having a laptop in the chain is a pain but I can'r easily see a way around this - don't really want to buy an off the shelf "streamer" as they always seem quite compromised and then you have built in obsolescence in a piece of hifi kit.
Otoh I don't really want to spent £300 or so on another laptop just to sit there and run Roon.

i get the short squeeze story but surely that isn't a highly repeatable play?
and who is buying new gme shares?
GameStop has taken advantage of its popularity with retail traders to bolster its financial position with repeated stock sales, and on Friday morning it disclosed plans to sell another 75mn shares.

ah - actually i've just had a look at what we have and the IKEA stuff looks a lot worse than some Habitat "Bistro" we bought bitd before Habitat was shit, and the old Habitat stuff is in better condition than the much newer IKEA - so I take it back.
I think I'll have a look at something like these when I need to replace it all:

for balance, i've had a 2017 2.0 TSi (220PS) since new and generally think it's great.
yes it's big - that's the whole point of it
haven't noticed the blind spots being worse than eg the mondeo or passat which i've had
DSG is great - would not go back to manual
Adaptive cruise control is great - wouldn't have a car without it now
Seat is fully adjustable and better than mondeo / passat imo
Sound system is no worse than others i've had; it's what you would expect from a OEM system in a mid range cari guess it depends what you are coming from - i've had Peugeot 406, Subaru, Mondeo, Passat in the last 20 years. Obviously it doesn't handle as well as an Outback but it's quick, drives well, comfortable, great for long journeys with lots of people / luggage.
