it matched the speed of slower vehicles in my lane far, far further back than I would have done given I wanted to approach them
i.e. it prevents tailgating which is a good safety feature however doesn't quite adapt to the dickhead driving style of many which means the space left in front becomes an opportunity for another driver to move into.
on the overtaking thing - i can't see the problem with that, just press the accelerator, complete the manoeuvre and then take your foot off the gas and ACC resumes doing its thing. it takes a small amount of time to get used to and then becomes second nature.
lane assist is one thing i've not got my head around yet. had it on a hire car (Suzuki something or other) and it was really odd, particularly when avoiding oncoming vehicles on narrow roads in Orkney. probably not the kind of environment it was designed for.

for context:
Road traffic incidents continue to be one of the leading causes of death in the world. According to data from the World Health Organisation, approximately 1.19 million people are killed each year in road traffic crashes – one person every 23 seconds.
Between 20 and 50 million are injured. Globally, car crashes are the number-one cause of death for people aged between five and 29.
More than half of global road traffic deaths are pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, making this a problem that continues to merit discussion, debate and action.

anticipated that. just to complete:
the people we stayed with were building a wine business and we spent a lot of time visiting producers in chateauneuf du pape, gigondas and surrounding village appellations. we had an appointment with Domaine de Cristia which in those days were still newcomers, had a tour of the cellar including tasting barrel samples.

Having uplugged / swapped a few things, it is evident that it is definitely the laptop which is introducing noise into the audio output. Not sure why but it was a fairly cheap HP and must be more than 5 years old now, could be more like 7 or 8.
Right now, I'm quite tempted to replace it with a wiim pro, but i've not fully researched his option and I have limited patience for interface management so that could be a challenge. One of the reasons that I went for a windows laptop + Roon was the plug and play aspect of it.

thanks - yes, i will make time sometime soon. probably going to move house next year which should free up cash and hopefully time as well.
was just thinking, first time we drove down we had a life expired Fiat Tipo which belonged to my mum's boyfriend, and it made it there and back. The second time we had a Ford Mondeo which I owned at the time, the third time I borrowed a Subaru Outback. One time we got the TGV to Avignon - that was the time I wrote off the Citroen belonging to the parents of the people we were staying with...
all these trips were memorable for different reasons.

Single boiler machine - too much faff to do milk drinks
Get a stand alone coffee milk steamer - too much space waste, another gadget to clutter up the place
Answer - nice shiny dual boiler machine which looks great and gets you extra golf club points and saves you X*Y theoretical £3.90 cups of coffee from theoretical local artisanal coffee shop = big theoretical saving.Does that work?
^ this.
