are these machines double insulated or earthed?
just had a look at my relatively cheap grinder (Baratza) and it appears to be earthed (earth pin on the plug is metal - ok, not conclusive). If so, then the earth theory could have merit. you could ask your customer to try it in a different plug socket and if that doesn't work then a different ring main?

Borough Kitchen have this Wusthof on sale
I have ome of these, must be knocking on 10 years old now. It's definitely a workhorse that doesn't require TLC. It's a very good knife imo.
Only downside is the steel is hard af so it's not quick or easy to sharpen, but that's just the flip slide of durability and resilience.

I've always had carpets with significant wool content, I thought that was fairly normal.
We did have moths at one time and yeah they are hard to get rid of. They mainly went for a rug we had over a wood floor, and didn't get stuck into the hall or stairs fitted carpets. Pretty much ruined one rug which is a shame as it was a really nice hand made thing.

paying someone who knows what they are doing
Yeah, they know what they are doing; taking your fee and adding it to.their sales target. And aggregate returns equals market returns minus fees.
Sorry, unhelpful reply. I really don't know what I'd do in your situation.
Edit: having thought about it a little, with a 4 year time frame I'd be looking at tax efficiency as others have said, and cash and fixed income for all or the vast majority of it.

as long as you see them coming early
I see the attraction of this view, especially at a time where nearly all asset classes appear expensive in comparative terms.
However, for me at least, the chances of spotting an emerging bubble, getting in on it, riding the euphoria phase for a chunk of time and then getting out with significant gains, seems unlikely and more so considering the limited time I have left to achieve this and then enjoy the benefits.
If I was 25, maybe I'd think differently.
Market timing doesn't work for the majority of people which equally means that it will work for some, and whether that's by luck or judgement probably doesn't really matter.
