I have handsome cycles Mud Butlers in 45mm (very similar to VO hammered) over 38mm slick gravelkings. I wouldn't want to try and fit anything wider under them, I'd say close to the limit of functional clearance. 40mm tyres would fit but you'd probably start to get rub if you put in any kind of effort and you might start to get side-spray too.

James Hoffman did a video earlier this year along those lines, high extraction through a filter in the portafilter. He looked at it in terms of drinking it as an espresso shot but I guess it would work to turn it into a longer americano style drink. Bit too much faff for me but it's an interesting watch.

They're genuine OEM groupsets usually. I looked into buying one before but the cost wasn't significantly lower than buying from the UK. Full R8000 on aliexpress is £440 + £40 shipping then you'll pay import duty on top of that. Same groupset on CRC minus bottom bracket is £550 with free postage and no duty to pay, plus dealing with a UK company for warranty etc.

My friends all swear by Orange Seal which tbh is the only reason I chose it but it's worked well for me so far. Had 2 small punctures in about 5000km from small glass splinters which have both sealed before I lost much air. I don't really think there's much between the big names, they're all going to work about the same.

I have a Polartec jacket. It's a discontinued Louis Garneau one in fashion-yellow so not for this thread, but polartec is really great for winter riding. Really warm and doesn't get sweaty and reasonably waterproof. I've done my 10 minute commute home in torrential rain and it didn't let any water through. I wear mine in similar temp ranges and add/remove layers underneath as needed.

Weird choice of icon if so. This is the Google Public Alerts icon for flooding:

Does anyone know the book I'm failing to remember? Non-fiction and it was written some time between 1900 and 1930 IIRC and is about a couple of guys that cycle across the middle east to China. I'm sure it was linked to on here a few years ago and there was a PDF available online. I can't really remember anything specific about it except there were stories about the Kurds and other nomadic groups in the ME and that their bikes were falling apart by the end. I'm failing at Google.

I used them when they were called Clement a few years ago, the 28c folding tanwall ones. They cut up super easy for me, around 6 months in they were covered in nicks of various sizes. Replaced the rear since that had a couple of slashes I didn't feel comfortable riding on and that lasted about 4 months. Switched to bigger GravelKings after that which I've been much happier with.
Aside from cutting up, they rode nicely enough and I think I only got 1 actual puncture in that time.
