No, breeding is not mandatory nor should it be. People will have all sorts of reasons for having or not having children and they're all valid as it should be a personal choice. When we decided to have kids (and it was a decision we made prior to finding out it was happening - this is not always the case), we considered the financial impact. Inaccurately, as it turns out, because as @dinosaur says, its virtually impossible to accurately gauge the impact a child will have on your life. 'All eventualities' is an incredibly broad statement - I can safely say that no, I would not be able to take care of my children in all eventualities.
The problem I have is the idea that financial wealth is a requirement to procreation. I mean, do you really want our future generations to be largely made up of tories?!

You’re basically saying poor people shouldn’t have kids, though aren’t you?
It’s bullshit that poorer people choose to work rather than stay at home with the kids. That might be true of career-ladder climbing (upper?) middle class parents, but they’re likely to have access to other childcare anyway. The problem is lower paid jobs don’t pay enough to support a family on. Saying things like people assume school is “always there to entertain your kids” is loaded and I’d hope you could see that.I guess we just have a system that isn’t set up with anyone other than the middle class or ‘above’ in mind. In fact, the idea probably is something along the lines of poor people should stop having kids.

school is not a babysitting service
That’s a very simplistic statement. The reality is that most families can’t afford to not both be working and don’t necessarily have access to other family who can help with childcare. Most families rely on their children being in school so that they can both work - one parent being a ‘stay at home’ is now a luxury that you have to be reasonably well off the be able to afford, unlike with previous generations. Summer holidays often mean taking a big financial hit to somehow juggle work/kids, so any extra days can make life pretty difficult.
Edit: that came out much rantier than intended! In reality, I’m kind of on the fence about heatwave school closures. Perhaps it should be optional, so kids who’s parents are able can keep them at home, but kids who’s parents have no choice can send them in where they’ll have fewer bodies in rooms etc.

I’m afraid I don’t know much about it. There’s no model number on it anywhere and I can’t find any information online. I’m assuming it would work with any derailleur as it’s essentially a friction shifter. I never installed or used it as I went with flat bars on the bike it was destined for in the end
I mean, I’d like to think I’m more coquettish than that…
