Thanks! That's a strange number combination, it should have an A somewhere(+ number indicating the size) on the drive side (I was wrong here above) and than E 2047 on the non-drive.

Complete number of mine is A9 R (because it's made from Reynolds tubing) E (and a number I don't know by heart). Never seen a frame with an F.

But don't let this strange habit of mine spoil your fun. ;-)

Mine has an E as date-number too so they're from the same year (the list says 95 but that is definitely not correct as mine has above BB cable routing).

Following this. I'm having 2 Merckx Professional frames being restored at this very moment. Can you post the serial number of yours to compare (mine's number is not following the list as it's here but should be 1982 too).

The frame and livery is from 8 speed Campa Ergopower days.

I doubt that. Frame is from later date so I think it has 9 speed Record Titanium on it. Crankset is definitely not 8 speed. And it's one of the later MX Leaders, think end nineties (early ones had other paint scheme and had the MX Leader decal placed close to the headtube).

Adapters look shitty (I tried one...) but BBB has 1" fork extenders (cost 10-15 GBP) so you can use the original fork and use an ahead stem and headset.

If you change to modern setup, you should change everything (including stem -> ahead type). I finished my '98 Master with a Sram Force group (10 speed) and modern/lightweight components and that looks great (I'm a bit prejudiced, ofcourse...).

Just mailed the seller; I need a 120 mm and this is only 110. :-(

true, I sold mine because it was 2 cm to large. Right now there are 3 in the right size for sale around here (price less than 650 euro for complete bike) but don't like the color. Damned, loved mine in Telekom colours.

Colours are a bad copy of the Team Telekom colours, I guess. ;-)

Ride it and look for a real Merckx MX fork, they will make it a complete different bike. Forks are probably pretty hard to find but they do pop up from time to time.

It looks like a real Merckx MX Leader but I'm pretty sure it's a resprayed one.

True, paint is almost too good to be resprayed but on the other hand (an honoustly speaking): Merckx produced better colour schemes than this one so it won't be a big loss having it resprayed. ;-)
