The Tories are going to do anything within their power to avoid a GE as they'd (based on
current polling) lose in a manner that is conceivably historically notable.This.
Remember that it was the Parliamentary Conservative Party who forced BoJo to quit, but it's not beyond belief that 100 of them might nominate him (if he puts himself forward from the beach he's currently on) only in the hope of saving their own jobs.
Charles Walker did an impassioned interview on the Beeb last night which sounded really good until you ask 'why did he wait until now to say it'? And he only talked about the damage being done to the Tory party, not the country. He as been complicit in everything his party has done in Parliament in his 17 years as a backbench MP. -

So how much has this state funeral cost us?
on top of the £102 million this year to keep the royal family housed, fed, serviced
I don't want to be an apologist for the Royal Family, but they are generally net contributors to the country's finances. The profits from the Crown Estate are paid to the government each year and 25% of this is returned as the 'Sovereign Grant' to the Queen/King. Apparently, the payments to the government have totalled around £3bn over the last 10 years.
I thought I'd seen a graphic on this thread showing how this works, but I can't find it. There's a long winded version here, though https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1063719/Report_of_the_Royal_Trustees_on_the_sovereign_grant_2022-23.pdf

The people in the article are younger and still working so not the stereotypical pensioner.
Edit: haha, just had a look at a documentary about a British pensioner
Joe, the main interviewee, is shown as 64 so, although he might be receiving some personal or occupational pension income, it's doubtful whether he is getting any UK state pension.
So, he retired early, relocated to Portugal and voted for Brexit.
Presumably, he got the Brexit he didn't vote for (tm).

Probably several factors used to show it off in a dramatic way:
Very light
Fire by wire protections turned off
High speed at rotation meant plenty of kinetic energy (speed) to trade off as potential energy (height) - notice how it levelled off pretty soon after take off when the speed would have fallen off towards the stall speed.

This will be forgotten as quickly as the Chilcott Report. Anyone remember that?
The Standard repeatedly ran Corbyn antisemitism stories during the last GE campaign. Maybe this will give some anti Labour ammunition to the aspirants to the Tory party leadership? Convenient time for them to release the report if it does...

Must have been a golden age for watching and playing at both levels!
I grew up in Rochdale with a dad who was a big cricket fan and we were both Lancs CC members in the golden days of the Sunday League. We also went around the Central Lancs and Lancs league grounds. I saw Gary Sobers and Joel Garner play for Littleborough years ago!
https://www.littleboroughcc.co.uk/about/professionals-from-the-past/Later on, I played myself (not at that level!) and my first serious bat was an SS Jumbo (a Viv tribute) and my last one was a GN Powerspot (early 90's original version) that a few of the Lancs players used at the time (Atherton?) which was wonderful. There was a DF Magnum (Gooch tribute) somewhere in the middle that I didn't really get on with.

I thought it was a good speech. However, there were a few vox pops after Bojo's resignation where people said that they would never trust Starmer.
Admittedly, this is London centric, but I can't forget the constant ad hominem attacks against Corbyn in the Metro and Standard in 2019 (e.g. anti semitism and pro IRA) which were just thrown out with no context or background.
What's the betting that Starmer won't get the same treatment? How about his non-involvement in the Savile prosecution? I can't see that not being raised in the right wing media disinformation.

There was a post a couple of hours before yours !
I'd assumed he wanted to beat the length of May's term to move a place up in the shortest serving PM league table.
If it is about some sort of bash at Chequers, I sincerely hope that he's crowd funding it from his Tory and Russian backers and that 'hard working families' and tax payers won't be picking up the tab. Still, the guest list might be a little shorter than it would have been at the weekend!
Certainly Dorries (allegedly).
