Anyone rooted and installed something like Lineage OS (bare bones debloated Android)?
I did it recently and use open source Aurora store instead of Google Play (it uses a throwaway temporary Google account to download play store apps). Battery span has gone from 1 day to 2 days with frequent use. Makes you wonder...

I thought this thread would be a good place to share any web/code/design projects in the works.
I have been thinking about building an Etsy-like platform but for craftspeople who make and sell homemade bike gear. Pedal straps, bottle holders, customised saddles, frames, bags etc. Somewhere where cheap mass produced tat would be banned and you know you are genuinely funding a small batch maker. Would like to build it with a lot of input from the community it serves (and even involvement from designers/techies here if interested).

Just got an enforcement investigation notice for my garden room.
Mine was built from a kit, and I went to the 2.5m limit but on measuring now it seems to be slightly bigger, 2.53m.
I have a neighbour who talks to me about how a previous owner took 6 inches of his land. Thing is the old fence and boundary is at least a few decades old. Out of good will I was going to let him have the 6 inches but he has called the council and reported my cabin, so f*ck him, I will be erecting something permanent and concreted in right next to that fence if I have to take down the cabin!

So my heart is really sensitive to caffeine. I get really bad abnormal heart rhythm with it, but I am totally addicted to it. I was willing to live with the abnormal heart beat but had a scare yesterday where I got light headed with the abnormal heart rhythm and had to go to hospital.
Are there any really really good caffeine free beans?

IMO let anyone do it, and those who can't install and test competently can still hire electricians. To be fair, part P hardly covers anything now. But enforce the law severely if anyone, electrician or not, doesn't follow BS7671 to the letter. Competence instead of credentialism.
On a related note, how does one become an electrician? I am a software engineer working in the energy sector anyway. I have been thinking about starting a company installing smart home systems with custom software and being a qualified electrical installer would be handy.

Looks really neat and tidy and yes, I would pay a bit extra for the electrician to do it by the book. but unfortunately most tradespeople I have hired to date have let me down in some way. I might just be too much of a perfectionist.
For future reference be careful with conduit and cabins as they do rise and fall substantially throughout the year and nothing is fixed to the timbers, everything has to slide vertically e.g. the door frame isn't screwed to the logs, but just slotted in.

I wonder whether regulation like this is naturally going to force small forums into the anonymous-owner space. Decentralised P2P protocols like Mastodon and whatnot so the community hosts the forum rather than a centralised entity. Of course, then regulating actual unwanted or unpleasant content becomes really difficult.

Thanks. I am going by three electrician quotes I have already had. Two of the three wouldn't bother with a CU in the shed, opting for a beefy fused spur (like you get for cookers), and no one was willing to bury the cable, saying they'd pass it on the floor behind some planters. One of the three said they'd install a ground spike and a CU.
Even if it takes more than a day, 2 grand is crazy money.

This. Also, your job should align with your aptitudes and interests.

I have always been a maker. I like working to my own schedule and getting into an undisturbed flow where I am deeply engrossed in what I am doing. Some people prefer to spend their day in meetings, and engaging with colleagues directly. If you are an extrovert stuck in a job where you are forced to focus on a task without enough human interaction, or an introvert stuck in a job where you have to interact with people all day, you will become miserable.

PTFE wont do anything for that kind of joint. You will have to unscrew both of those connections and look at the rubber compression rings inside (use an old towel to catch any drips, and the bottom of the U will be full of water). If they have broken you can buy the whole trap part, which will include both of the compression rings, for a few quid from Screwfix. It doesn't need anything, just make sure the black pipe is pushed in all the way, and that rubber O rings are compressed adequately at both joints to seal the joint.
I am surprised that it isn't more popular than it is. I find it funny that most people (including me for many years) put up just fine with Google or Xiaomi or whoever running analytics software on your phone, with zero benefit to you, and running down the battery, just because it is a bit of a faff to spend a few hours rooting the phone and installing Lineage
