Thanks all. Yeah that's true - good perspective Oliver. Today has been trying tho! I've tried to get to the shops twice and failed. Wife's on her way home with two hunry kids and there's no food. I'm trying to catch up on the work I missed and the dog's going batshit. Ahhh.

Will def try. It's a bit tricky when you only have a small window in which to nip out and buy milk or whatever though. I've heard comedy horror stories about people having wheel refusenik labradors abour in a pushchair and stuff. I'm not gonna be that guy.

Has anyone got any tips for getting a 17 week old puppy to effin move when she's decided all she wants to do is go back home? She'll happily walk/run/gambol for miles and hours when we're with the family, a few other people or even with just one other child. But when I try to take her out on my own (even if there's no-one else at home when we leave) she just point-blank refuses to go. She sits on the pavement and cries and tries to turn back. Carrying her just moves the problem to a new location a few metres down the road - and I don't want to get into the habit of carrying her anyway. Bribing her to heel with treats works only for a metre or two until she either gets the treat then sits down and refuses to move again for another 15 minutes or clocks that I keep moving the treat and she sits down and refuses to move again. I've tried cajoling, encouraging, cuddling, dragging, getting cross, trying to get her excited and chase me... none of it works.

Weirdly given that she seems so worried about the world the only time that she forget she's worried is when another person or dog walks past when she immediately perks up and wants to say hello and flirt and play. Then when they move on she's all happy for a couple of seconds before she remembers that she's frightened and just wants to go home all over again.

I needed to take her out for a walk earlier as i'd been on calls all morning and no-one else is home. I had 90 mins to do a 10 minute round-trip to the shop to get human food. I gave up and came home after 80 mins having run out of time, treats and patience. The only actual progress has been the few times I'd cracked and picked her up to cross a road. Came home hungry, frustrated and cross. Now I need to go back to work and all the pup wants to do is play because she hasn't had any exercise this morning. So fucking annoying!

Edit for clarity: pup wanting play isn't annoying in itself - it's lovely. It's just the situation. I have to ignore her and work now which sucks.

I'm guessing it's just a "give it time" thing, but any other tips gladly received.

Dry baked wings is my go-to as well. I do them on a rack so the rendered fat drips away. I prefer them this way to fried. Crispier innit. The baking soda kinda puffs up the skin to make them even crunchier.

Also, when I do buffalo wings, (which is probably every couple of months (always when the missus is out so I can enjoy them in peace withot someone giving me the side-eye as I inhale them) I do the hot sauce in one bowl, the blue cheese in the other. Then it's dip-dip-eat. That way you keep the crunch of the wing and can balance how much of each sauce you want on each bite. An your hands don't get covered in sauce. Triple win.

This is sending me straight into one of the middle-class shame threads but I can highly recommend Sutton Hoo chicken. We get it from a local butcher and it’s just awesome. It’s a totally different thing from little, wet, watery floppy supermarket chicken. A whole one is like £23 but i can get half a dozen wings for £3:50 and they’re literally twice the size of a normal wing, with drumstick levels of meat on each.

Can’t stop making honey soy chicken at the moment. Wings and drumsticks - actually we sometimes do thighs and breast for the missus as well - dusted with flower, bit of neutral oil and roast in a medium oven till done. About an hour in 180 usually does it. Personally I like chicken really falling off the bone so I usually take it out a leave it to “rest” for a while at some point before sticking back in for the final phase. I know it’s not really resting it’s just letting the residual heat really cook the chicken though before going back for the final crunch-adding phase. Then back in to crisp up and halfway though that phase, add a mix of Soy, honey and sriracha (about 70/25/5 ratio). Keep turning and basting still it’s all sticky and crunchy. You have to watch it though as it will burn quickly once the marinade dries out. I sometimes add a bit of water to delay the caramelisation while the chicken achieves perfect done-ness.

Add sesame seeds and a squeeze of press lime, serve with sweet potato “fries” (oven-baked) and steamed purple-sprouting broccoli, it’s mine a the kid’s favourite at the moment. We’re obsessed.

Another vote for the Monel’s here. I also have a Guild M120 but it’s been in bits for years. Have Martin Monels on my Sigma DR28 and they suit me perfectly. I hate brash bright zingy new string sound.

I’ve been behaving, although plateaued a bit the last week due to a few too many “just one beer” days. Still making progress and am 14/5 this morning (91kg) down from 102kg starting point 8 weeks ago. Belt needs a new hole! Woot!

Apparently but I’m sceptical. I can do the stretch no bother, but trying to get the middle finger back to the g string second fret just isn’t happening. Not without pain and pulling all of the other notes out of tune anyway.

Haha! I have! I invested some time and potential joint damage in learning the "proper" way off Adrian ACPG a few years back. It's super satisfying. I can't quite do the major third on top of the stacked fifths on the F chord tho. Can just about manage the rest...
