Heh. Don't worry mate. We're eliminating places and figuring out what our dollar gets us in different areas between here and family in Kent. Personally I'm rooting for Staying put, Sydenham, Beckenham or fucking it all off and moving to the coast.
Had a valuation today. Apparently we live in a maisonette. Who knew?

@cornelius_blackfoot Excellent! We're going to be driving about looking at areas tomorrow. Think we're free in the evening. Will text you. xx

Sydenham and Beckenham were top of my list but unless we top up our debt significantly they're out of reach. Having considered most places between Brixton and the Kent coast we're currently flirting with the idea of Eltham and Petts Wood.
Don't want to come across as moaning as we're really in away better position than we have any right to be - but shopping around for houses both in and out of London really does drive home how totally fucking bananas the London market is.

Owses are still going f*cking mental here.
We bought in SE23 well within our means three years ago and despite that property almost doubling in price since (making us riiiich in theory i.e. outside of the M25) we can't afford to buy anywhere with the extra room we now need for storing a small human in our neighborhood, anywhere even remotely nearby, and definitely not in Brixton.
Basically unless we're willing to mortgage up the hilt (we're not) then we're effectively priced out of the area we live in. Which means priced out of London. Which, considering our joint income is orders of magnitude over the average UK salary is INSANE.
I'm really not complaining because as dilemmas go, ours is undemanding. We're totally fine, if a tad pushed for space, if we stay where we are and could cash-in a move out. So we're by no means hard done by.
I just find it crazy that the next logical step for a young family the "trade up to a slightly bigger but still affordable place in the same area" option is no longer viable unless we're willing to gamble our future by signing up to a potentially crippling level of debt.
London's gone meh.

Oh hai. Instead of starting who WAS in a band (I'm still in a band) I'm going to start posting old things I dun in here. Was feeling nostalgic for these boys tonight. Still love this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azMxp9afSvM

It's interesting enough just hearing first hand accounts of what goes on from all sides out there . But i kind of feel as if the centre of the S2 story is totally lacking jeopardy. What happens to Bo is surely the difference between subtly different flavours of fucked by a bizarre military justice system, as a coda to something horrible that has already happened.
From that point of view the whole premise for the show of "as told week by week" is more or less meaningless. It's 90% excerpts from interviews that were done a while ago, eked out try and build tension and timed (presumably) to peak at around the time some announcement on the case is due. I'm assuming the change to bi-weekly is a reaction to a change in that schedule. It's all a bit silly.
As to the nub of the story they keep dangling: "what he was thinking when he walked off?" Does it really matter? I'm not sure I care really.
I'll keep listening like the whore I am though.

Go down (half) a gauge. Fuckit man, life's too short to be struggling on thinking you "should" be able to be comfortable with phatter strings. There's no shame in it. If that guitar needs lighter strings to be comfortable for you, do it!
I spent ages trying to train my hands to be happy with 11s because I bought into some macho message board bullshit about the big sound and SRV using 13s or whatever. I just played worse and ended up with sore fingers.
I've been playing 25 years and my hands are relatively slim. No matter how much I practice they're not going to get bigger or that much stronger that i'll be happy bending 11s or 12s around on a Strat. It's just not going to happen. I like a bit of fight back but i don't want to be struggling.
Anyway, I like the twangier sound of lighter strings. I found 11s and 12s on a strat made it sound kind of dull. 9.5s sound like the obvious answer to me.

@Olly398 Pretty sure overall string length behind the nut and bridge does affect tension. As does break angle over the bridge. I can't remember why but it does!
-
It should do. It might decrease the downwards (towards the body) tension on the bridge too so could affect sustain though. Not necessarily a terrible thing. I hate guitar nerds wanking about sustain like it's the holy grail.
What gauge are you using? Odd that an LP suffer with stiff action/high tension isn't it? As a Telecaster guy Gibsons always feel super loose to me. Always takes me by surprise and I spend a a while whacking it and digging in too hard before I realize that if i'm a bit more gentle it's easier to play stuff I couldn't normally manage on the Tele.
