@PhilDAS I just sort of prefer the thru-axle interface, I find it more satisfying and easier with disc brakes. I know that if I just stick it in and tighten it everything will be aligned and secure. I want it to be an off-road tourer with 2+ inch tyres.
@Brommers haha maybe possible wasn't the right word, realistic might have been better.

Ive been busy fantasising about getting an old Marin MTB frame modded into a 650b adventurer/tourer.
Anyway I have a set of surly straggler forks with the same A2C as the original marins and I’m wondering if getting thru axle dropouts brazed on instead of the QR is even possible? Since I have it, it could workout cheaper than getting a new steel thru axle fork.

Looks nice, potential for a good build for someone if they’re nearby.

Oh, I clicked attending but realised I’ll be away cycling that weekend.
I’ve been wanting to follow @giofox on one of his routes for a while.

I saw a pretty nice trek multi track in true temper ox looking very abandoned today.
Rear wheel was not attached to frame but was locked with it and all buckled. The frame was pretty rusty and certainly looked like it hadn’t moved in some time.
What’s the ethics of me going and trying to get it? I was probably going to ask around some of the houses first see if anyone knew who’s it was or how long it had been there.
Also do hacksaws go through chain locks?

On my search for vegan toast toppings I ended up having marmite, hummus, chilli flakes and a grind of black pepper on some crunchy toast.
A nice covering of marmite on the toast first followed by a very liberal layer of hummus then the chilli and pepper on top.
I think it's amazing and I'd like someone else to try it and see if I'm just crazy.

Since the GI is a measure of how much of a negative response your body has to certain sugars, the 7g of sugar in Oatly with its 100+ GI is actually potentially worse than the 12g of sugar in whole milk with a 46 GI. We can use something called the “glycemic load” to measure this, which gives us a GL for the sugar in 8oz of Oatly of 7.35, and a GL for the sugar in 8oz of whole milk of 5.52. Oatly’s glycemic load is about 33% higher than milk’s is!
This is a bit of a dubious paragraph. GI is not a measure how much of a negative response your body has to sugar. It is simply how quickly carbohydrate turns into energy, as far as I understand.
Comparisons to coke are also a bit far-fetched. Like, people who get obese from drinking fizzy drinks are probably drinking a whole lot more fizzy drinks than the average oat milk consumer is drinking oat milk. No one is sitting and drinking 2 litres of oat milk while watching TV.

My friend is having a nightmare trying to find anything new in stock so I’ve told him to give up and look for something second hand.
Not really too many requirements apart from size, he wants something that can ideally accommodate up to 35mm tyres but it isn’t a strict requirement. Rack mounts would also be preferential. Pickup in London.
What have you got?!

Ah I hadn’t thought of that solution but I actually just won a surly ultra new 120mm rear on eBay and I wanted polished silver anyway so I guess that’s the route I will take.
@miro_o probably didn’t need something else throwing in to consider but they do look good on paper and I would probably prefer something less deep so I will look into them, cheers.

Saw @spotter and someone else possibly riding a vagabond earlier? Passed through Shoreditch one way and then saw you going back the other way each carrying a wheel. Funny recognising people coz of their bikes and not their faces.
-
Hmm maybe it is. I guess unless it’s actually for the aero benefits then I’d rather have same depth front and rear.
I was planning on using surly ultra new hubs because there isn’t a huge choice of matching hubs that come in fixed 120mm rear and front disc (that don’t cost a million pounds) and AFAIK the lowest they come in is 32h. I want the wheels to be pretty solid as they’re going to be doing 120+ miles a week across London and not too concerned about weight because it’s fixed.
-
@miro_o Hmm not sure I could deal with having different rim depths front and rear, think it would bother me more than the asymmetrical/symmetrical. Maybe I'll just go XR26 front and rear. 4mm more aero too ;)
@gbj_tester Yes I am intending to use same hubs and I am inclined to trust you if you say it will look fine.
I don't feel any closer to a decision however.

Is this to do with covid? Seems weird to actually go to the trouble of laying new pavement for something that will definitely last a while but is temporary. The barriers at other places seem good enough to me.
