I can't believe you lot are still going on about Tammy Ruffell, dangerous cyclist hunter and alleged driving instructor from Bristol.

She seems to like horses though - perhaps just not on the road where they get in her way.

This is proper hilarious.
Imagine that behaviour at green traffic lights on a 40 mph road such as this
You want everyone slowing down to 10 mph through there? (NB assuming light traffic conditions with it all actually moving at more than 10 mph of course! Could probably have picked a better example but ya git me).

If these people you're talking about were sat waiting in front of you - and also in front of the solid white line - then fair enough.
But if folk aren't making the most efficient use of the space at the front of the traffic queue at lights (i.e right up to the solid line and using the full width of the cycle box or whatever it's called) I'll pull up in front of them / to the side of them. So what if they cycle faster then me? I'd rather be a the front with all the other bikes than blindly queuing single file all back alongside the kerb.

I had one of these that had a hairline crack of about 0.5cm at the top of the cut out (is that the right term?). This meant that it creaked a bit under load, and I spent 15 years saying to myself "I will replace it soon because it'll fail soon". Finally got round to replacing it last year (with exactly the same model, found on ebay) ...
I still have the one that's cracked slightly, if anyone wants it. Probably safe as long as it's not raised up more than a couple of cm.

Pootling along Hackney Road this morning, a bit of a jam ensues, it being rush hour.
An impatient gentleman decided he was far too important to wait with the rest of the traffic so he launched himself at full speed onto the pavement to avoid said jam. Promptly gets his chain stuck and falls off in a comedy fashion and ends up in a heap on the pavement.
Instant karma!

Well you don't need to shout at them.
But generally yes, society would probably be a better place if we all made an effort to let inconsiderate people know that their inconsiderate behaviour is unacceptable to the rest of us.
Sadly it is often difficult to perform such civic duties without sounding like a sanctimonious twat! Some people have this skill though - perhaps it should be taught in schools...

I'd grab a classic rack if I could find one (I assume you mean the old karrimor ones with the little lugs for the bag loops?)
I have a classic/vintage/whatever seatstay-mounted rack to keep the bag off the wheels/mudguard, but of course this is no good for hanging the bag in the first place. Does stop the bag from wobbling though.

If you attach/detach a carradice regularly then consider an SQR mounting:-

But boat cleats are about ten times cheaper and far less cumbersome ;)

I think the problem is threefold.
- bag loops on Brooks saddles are not as smoothly filed as they used to be, causing more wear on the leather straps. I'm sure I remember there being extra inserts on some as well that would have more smooth edges?
- Carradice leather straps do seem a little more prone to cracking up, but this is just conjecture on my part - in the past I gave them less of a workout anyway because...
- Also in days of yore folk would just strap a bag on and leave it there for years. Nowadays due to security concerns we expect to be able to attach and remove it daily, which adds to the stress on the straps. I can recommend the boat cleat trick
if you're attaching and removing on a regular basis. The bag ends up hanging a little lower, but it's worth this mild annoyance to save on the faff of attaching/detaching twice a day on my commute.
Incidentally my Nelson longflap was manufactured by Debby, so I've added that onto the list.

Yeah I put the rear brake on backwards because otherwise it seemed to foul the sturmey pulley and cable on the other side. The calipers aren't strictly 'period' - think they're from the 70s - so maybe that's why. Or maybe I installed the gear cable in the wrong way... but anyway it all seems to work fine (and Sheldon says it's ok)!
If I can't find the right bulbs - I'll keep searching for a bit - I'll probably splash out on the LED conversion for a SA dynohub. Would be a shame though, because I do like the murky glow of an incandescent bulb.

My 1949 Lenton Sports. Not sure if this belongs in 'rat bikes' instead, because it's a total shitheap! But runs well. Got the rusty but solid frame off ebay for £25 and built the rest up from bits I had lying around. Has a sturmey 4 speed, but 'converted' to three because the hub needs an overhaul. The carradice bag was my grandpa's from the 60s; the front dynamo lamp also his, from the 40s I believe. Sadly the correct wattage bulbs are no longer available so I'm probably going to have to go LED. Apologies for rubbish iphone photos.

I've just been invited to the "National Funeral For The Unknown Victim Of Traffic Violence". I don't like the look of it.

Sorry if this event has been discussed before, couldn't find any mention.

The Spanish bar on The Cut in Southwark, Meson Don Felipe, does takeaway paella during the daytime for a reasonable fee. It's tasty and good value. I buy it for my lunch roughly once a week.
Yesterday there was some "Waterloo Quarter" (ick) Spanish / Latin American food festival thing further up The Cut opposite the Old Vic. Meson Don Felipe had a stall there but they were shifting so much paella that they weren't cooking the rice properly and it was all gritty and got stuck in my teeth. Disappointed.

Driver of van hears 'jolt' as he rides over cyclist.
http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2014/11/13/driver-in-shropshire-cyclist-tragedy-tells-of-feeling-jolt/
I still can't fathom how killing someone by driving over them can be considered merely "careless", but I guess our lovely legal system and the CPS know better than I.
