Fair enough. I've done it three different ways:
1) bag drops with clean clothes at 350km-ish intervals on LEL that didn't necessarily coincide with my sleep stops
2) carrying everything in a monster saddlebag for a 1300km DIY
3) not changing shorts at all on PBP

I'd do 1) again if I had the choice.

It doesn't really matter - clean shorts are clean shorts - they'll be just as welcome at lunchtime as first thing in the morning.

I'm riding the Plains Trains and no more Automobiles 200 from Bristol on Saturday. Really excited about riding through Avebury and past Stonehenge - two places I've never been before.

Yes, sadly. When I thought I was still going to ride LEL I wasn't fit enough for fixed so stuck some gears on the audax bike. I'll go back to fixed in the autumn and try again.

4 years of sleep dep from having two young kids must have done some good - I was tired by the time I left Trefeglwys but was adamant I didn't need to stop for a nap. Could have done with a secret control near Marton though. Finished about 3:15 AM, started at 7:45 - so about 19 1/2 hours.

Went to the Knives UK show yesterday at Tortworth near Wotton under Edge. Lots of lovely stuff to look at - custom stuff, high end folders, fixed blades, knife making kit etc. Glad I didn't take much cash with me, though I did come away with a nice S/H Case pocket knife.

Thanks, am pretty pleased with how it went given I DNFed my attempt at a 300 two weeks ago with dodgy knees. Great route and controls and excellent support from all the volunteers.

Just finished it. First 400 for 5 years, also my fastest 400 ever, mostly by not stopping to sleep. Irritating headwind for the first 270 km but a great final 1/3 back from Aberystwyth.

You can still get them S/H now and again. I've got a 1978 issue Wenger SI and recently sold an undated one for less than £20.

I just file the keyring tab off the Pioneers now - means I can get them in nice colours.

Very nice. What are you going to use for the handle? I assembled an Enzo Elver kit (a bit smaller than the H1 and full-flat grind) a couple of years ago using the stock micarta handle slabs. It's lovely, but I never use it.

Nice. Most likely a Syph007/Bob Lessard custom, but there are others out there who make them. Unusual to see one of his with standard silver scales. Is it yours?

I don't want to come across as too geeky, but that bottom one is a Pioneer, not a Soldier. Soldier doesn't have the keyring attachment, Pioneer does. I don't think you can buy either the Wenger Standard Issue or the Victorinox Soldier any more - the Pioneer is the closest production model.

And @aggi, that knife is easy enough to find if you look for Victorinox Compact, or search for the model number 1.3405.

Victorinox Electrician. Large + small blades (big one for food, the other for boxes, cable ties etc.), awl (for poking stuff you shouldn't use the tip of a knife blade for) and a bottle opener/screwdriver.

Thank you. I took it off because I was a bit worried about the weight of the bar bag being supported by just the mudguard eyelets on the fork, and the rack bending where the barbag mount was fitted. I still like the idea of a proper rando bag on there, but would need a fork with mid-blade eyelets and a rack with a stiffer vertical section, or proper decaleur. One day, maybe.

Was going to, then decided to pull out. Rode it in '09 on fixed though. Was a relief to get to Yad Moss and stand up for a bit after 500km of flat. Like Greenbank, ICBA to change ratios on rides.

Updated: now 1x10 (Microshift bar end lever, Zee rear mech, 11-36 cassette and 40T N/W ring), new bars,saddle, S/H Ultegra cranks and tubeless Gravel Kings.

Never had a problem with mine (Tiger Wayfarer + small tapered drybag) as long as drybag is packed tight and the straps are done up securely.

A bit spendy but very well made and secure.

Dorset Coast today - a beautiful day out in some amazing countryside with some great mates just having a laugh and riding bikes. Glad that two of the guys I was riding with had done the Hard Boiled the day before, so I could keep up with them.

Excellent build, looking forward to seeing more.
