An AUK event may not be ridden concurrently with any other event eligible for AUK awards.

For clarity hippy, that means you can’t ride two brevets simultaneously. The only angle around that are ECE, where you can ditch the ECE brevet but still gain points from the calendar brevet.

Pick deep section aluminium rims to compensate for fewer spokes. They also give better heat capacity and dissipation when using rim brakes on long descents.

You may need a cable anchor bodge as well to get all of the extra derailleur movement that you need.

Try without the QR volute springs. The rear axle might be long enough that your QR skewer nut is tightening against the compressed volute spring and axle end, rather than against the dropout.

Rusting through the spokes themselves is a slow process.

Those aren’t rusty rims. Motorpaced bikes not only glued the tyres to the rims. There was additional fabric glued from the tyre sidewall over the rims (between the spokes) to the other sidewall. This helped keep the tyre on the rim if the tyre flatted at high speed.

I use a 13/32” tap if the M10 tap looks marginal. I guess a 7/16” tap might work but I have never tried.

Piloted vs. unpiloted reamer makes a difference. I have seen somebody do a shitty job with an unpiloted reamer.

Replacing the swingarm pivot bushes is fairly easy to bodge. Reaming the new bushes in place takes some care and more care if you are bodging it. If you don’t need to ream the new bushes, great but that isn’t my experience.

Maybe it is easy enough to bodge. It is certainly an easy job to do with the right tools. The wear in the hinges was resolved by going up a pin size, which was nice. I have done hinges on three Bs of mine/ my family so far, so I am running about even on cost doing it at home vs. bike shop. The next B refurb should put me in profit.

I am in the UK but the tool and pins came from overseas. Brompton really doesn’t want UK privateers working on Bs.

There are two Calais-Brindisi permanents. One is the AUK one that you know about. The other is validated by the UAF. The routes are a bit different, as are the total distances. Both were set up quite a while ago and traffic levels have noticeably increased. I wouldn’t be blindly following ‘the canonical route’ without discussing alternatives with the organiser.

I wouldn’t go lower than 80 psi on 30mm tyres on a tandem. Flat-spotting the rims is a real thing.

LEL has a limit on entries and has sold out previously but who knows post-Covid. My partner and I have finished 7 x LEL between us but probably won’t enter this time.

The spacing between cogs is slightly different for Shimano and Campag. It will shift a bit crap. There are Campag-spaced cassettes with Shimano splines but they are generally rarer and costlier.

Interloc Racing Design Switchback brakes on a Fat City box crown fork. Fiddly but nice.

You should check whether a larger chainring and the resultant chain angle will clear the chain stay and seat stay.
