oh, that is very helpful. thank you. so, i need to take a magnet and press it against the forks. if the magnet attracts, that means it is steel forks.

thank you, but what about magnets, does ones of those metals have magnets?

this may sound stupid but does anyone know how to tell if a metal is steel or aluminium, for example bicycle forks?

@keanulooser no worries Kian. anyway they look cotter cause they are solid cranks and old-fashioned design.

@Smolders thank you very much for taking time to post this. at that price, the chainset is a steal and looks to be a good quality.

very affordable but it is cotter. this bike has got square taper bb, i am not sure but I think it is ISO

a couple of issues have come up.

• rear basket is impractical as you always have to worry if anything has fallen out of basket. need front basket fixture.
  
• it is impossible to skid stop because the bike is bulky.
  
• my fixed pedal does not stay in-thread is completely gone.
  
  

i've installed front brake, off a raleigh shopper, so that i can stop quickly.

i don't think i will be able to find right crank arm cheap anywhere to fix the pedal issue

i have finally found a plastic basket and attached it using zipties. now it's a real shopping bicycle.

if it is work, ask your line manager if you can have a day off.

if anyone feels like it, come to mid-summer njs ride. there's no pre-planned route, it will go wherever the wind takes it.
Please:
-njs stamped frames only
-have a bottle of water
-wear sunscreen
-wear a cap
-don't bother carrying inner tubes/tools, i will have everything for puncture fixing

my right crank arm pedal thread gave up today. pedal sort of fell off as i cycled. 50% of thread line is gone.

luckily some thread is left. i cleaned up the pedal and screwed it on with force by hammering the wrench. i hope it works.

the accessorizing quest continues.
got this devil monster from Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue and stuck it in the wheel using wire. Added cool anime stickers.

that frame is 52.5cm centre to top, so i guess he could ride anything from 51 to 54cm.
