Hi,
Just bought a 1990's Raleigh Royal off ebay to do the c2c. Was bored of watching used Dawes Galaxys go past my price range so settled for this.
It is black and grey, 531 Super Tourist frame. It comes with the following components:
- Shimano Exage 400LX rear and front derailleur.
- Shimano Exage 500LX triple crankset
- Weinmann Brakes (don't know the exact deets)
Any idea where the derailleurs and cranks stood in terms of quality compared to other 90's stuff? They seem to work nicely, but I am no expert. Was thinking of giving the bike a good pimpin'! I am at least gonna get it re-sprayed, and get some new wheelsets.
Would anybody recommend upgrading any of the parts or should these be good enough to last as is?
Anyone know what the old Galaxys/Super Galaxys used to have?
- Shimano Exage 400LX rear and front derailleur.

Thanks for the info! Quite pleased with the shifters, they are down tube, though only the 7 speed side is indexed, so moving between the 3 cranks takes a bit longer as they don't click into place. Is this quite common?
It came with a pannier rack which is good. Thanks for the info on the brakes.
