For anyone who is keen there is quite an interesting look here at Bolton's 900(?) modal filters.. who knew. From an ideas with beers session:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HyT51mUTf4Q
Good narrative building on "historic" LTNs, original and retrofitted filters, and "invisible" infratructure, all of which have of course been here for a long time if we look carefully.

Gloucestershire county council fails to meet local transport note 1/20 and doesn't get much DfT funding for AFT tranche 2.
https://road.cc/content/news/gloucestershire-challenges-dft-cycle-scheme-response-280701
This is somewhat newsworthy. We know Glos CC is next to useless for cycle infrastructure. They are one of many (almost all) authorities in that club.
It might be interesting to start looking at who is succeeding, and failing, to deliver meaningful infrastructure as the ATF begin to be consulted on and/or built. It seems many more (county) authorities in the north of england are much more engaged with this than any I know of in the south (outside of London)
(Not sure if there's a better conversation to put this in - maybe a new one anticipating active travel england?)

Well done! I moved from southwark a while back but great to hear about this.
The funding approach is fascinating. I wonder if it will catch on elsewhere. I remember a really good report on active travel from public health england a few years ago. After reading that i was in little doubt that generally public health leaders would make far better decisions on local transport infrastructure than the usual transport engineers and others in local government who are so fixated on car traffic etc.
-
I wonder if this will lead to anything positive - i.e. infrastructure. The knee jerk reaction to want to remove the lane didn't surprise me, but what did surprise me was the lack of any project objectives / outcomes / criteria / monitoring and evaluation. Setting up some criteria to evaluate your first segregated cycle infrastructure in a politically sensitive environment would have been sensible. Lets see how this plays out.

My goals for this year

Hey Chak, ah thats the age old question about jackets. Id call this water resistant. I'm wary of anyone selling a jacket second hand claiming its waterproof. Following the washing instructions or the nikwax treatment might make it even more water resistant.
If I want waterproof I generally only trust new jackets.. I bought a "peoples poncho" recently and that is waterproof.. great for downpours but not so great on rides faster than 12mph!
Feel free to come have a look

Added to this list is a vulpine jacket, medium, green. Suits 38"-40" chest. For fitting, i found the arms are a little short (or my arms are a little long).
Same make, colour, and looks about the same condition, as this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203232023800
Don't wear this anymore after getting myself a swrve milwaukee
£20 collection from N1
Can post or send photos. Dibs then PM

1917 sure looks great, but for me the whole film is undone with its premise that generals and comissioned officers made effective decisions during the war. Its been a while since my secondary school history lessons, but I got the impression back then that the 'great war' generals were (generally speaking) incompetent and worse.
'71 gets my vote as a similar style of film.

this reminds me of the time when i didn't go to the cinema for about 3 years. I barely watched any tv either during that time. When i finally did end up back at the cinema, it was incredible. We saw Tinker soldier sailor spy. I absolutely loved the pace of the film, and the detail in it, which shone through on the big screen. My pals said it was drab and slow, so what do I know. I recommend it as an autumn/winter watch.
Speaking of Jesse James, i recommend the proposition, or anything where nick cave / warren ellis has had a hand with the score / soundtrack.
That, and the Watchmen (tv show), visually and audibly impressive

If you do reply, it might be helpful to include data, and the link below shows miles driven in ealing (via DfT estimates) and how they have increased over recent years. circulated by Cllr Jon Burke in Hackney:
https://mobile.twitter.com/jonburkeUK/status/1321060610298302468I think there is mileage in that dataset! Could be useful if you want to engage on the "we weren't consulted on these incremental changes either", but also more generally on what this data means for Ealing's vision, policies and plans (etc).

^^ I love seeing leadership in our leaders. This is not it.
I foresee LTN schemes growing ever more costly and therefore difficult to implement widely. There seems to be growing demand for ANPR cameras to satisfy motorists living within LTN cells (cf LBHF). This will increase costs dramatically and only deliver half baked schemes.
In hindsight, I'm privileged to be in islington where they just got on and did it with covid-19 (after 20 years of umming and ahhing, but i didn't live here back then). I believe we will continue to see real progress in transport with leadership in the neighbourhoods of City of London, Hackney, Islington and Camden (and others), and a widening gap with other boroughs like Wandsworth. The LCC's Healthy Streets borough scorecards will be interesting to look at over time.

Sounds idyllic already!! Before we got our dog we were recommended Ian Dunbar's "before you get a puppy" (e)book by some friends and even our local vet. It was the single most useful resource I've come across. I highly recommend reading that before you make any decisions on breed, or anything else! I can send you a copy if you don't have it or can't find it online. It let us know what we were in for and got us ready for some challenging (and loving!) times
