I'm going vegan for the month of March with a house mate. Are reasons are different as his is to test for cardiorespiratory improvements while I might make it permanent for Karmic reasons.
I'd appreciate suggestions for vegan friendly coffee shops. I don't mean soy milk lattes as I'm a black coffee, no sugar guy. But, I do like me some cake.
nude espresso in soho square do a few vegan treats - try the peanut butter cookies (#biased)
milk bar on bateman street used to do the most bonkers vegan french toast (excellent for sunday mornings) but since the ownership changed i think this place has 1) gone down the pan and 2) they may not offer this any more - give it a shot though. (#biased) (i also have their vegan french toast recipe if you want it and i made it last week if you want a picture)
if you're in brixton go to ms cupcake for a cookie/cake/anything and then toddle over to federation coffee or blue turtle oasis (i think federation do one vegan thing, possibly, but ms cupcake is better) (#exceptionallybiased)
if you're in hackney, e5 bakehouse use nude espr beans and have some vegan cake/cookie options (#biased) and happy kitchen up the road (vegan bakery) might still be open
there's a turkish delight/chocolate shop just round the corner from kinono/daily goods some of whose truffles are accidentally vegan. i'm definitely guilty of getting some truffles and going round to daily goods for a coffee (xsvcx and i did it recently haha)
i'm hardly au fait with every single coffee shop in london's vegan options (i'd happily expand my knowledge through praxis though if anyone wants to make a regular thing of it!) but tell me which coffee shops you normally go to/which area you're based in and i'm sure i can help >^.^<

How was it?
Had to work, but saw MM, and possibly lucyh in quick succession riding along Coldharbour lane. Hi :)if this person was blonde, wearing a lot of black, looking a bit dishevelled and riding a stripped beater it was almost definitely me. hi :)
moar hangs soon plz! i had a great time on sunday (lovely to meet you MM and itsbruce!) - sorry to miss you and hotdogs jamie. do you know if TMF are doing any more pop ups soon (do they have some sort of residency at truman brewery now? they seem to be there a lot)
i was really happy with my crepe experience (the waitress was helpful and more than happy to accommodate my requests) would nom again. we also dicussed the thai place just at the entrance to brixton village which is busy but the food is still excellent. i'll travel anywhere though - still haven't tried tatreez!

Holistic Holiday at Sea vegan cruise anyone? Rich Roll will be there ;) http://www.atasteofhealth.org/?gclid=COnct6bt1boCFUkV7AodFi4AgA
if i had loads of money i'd probably do this, it looks ridiculous.
(also secretly disappointed that the richroll website wasn't a rickroll)
what kind of time do people want to get tatreez on wednesday?

Like cakes etc.
Basically what I want to do is a kickass vegan Donauwelle / Snow White Cake.
I did find some recipes, but nothing really inspiring confidence / mouth watering. Thanks!
i find this to always be useful:
http://www.theppk.com/but i've never made a cake like donauwelle. good luck!

There's a creperie in Brixton which has always been vegan friendly (excellent buckwheat galettes which they were happy to fill to order for vegans) but they now have several vegan options on the menu. Well worth a visit. Happy to help organise a meet-up there if enough people were interested.
i've not been here but it looks amazing! there are quite a few vegan options in brixton market (yum d thai, kaosarn thai, ms cupcake, i think the wheat- and gluten-free place has some options, etc) i would happily have a meet-up there.
xsvcx and i went to Pho vietnamese yesterday:

and now (as is my custom) i am going to spam the thread with vegan food pictures. apologies in advance for the massive pictures.
home made gluten- and soy-free pizza (with roasted mushrooms and sweet potato, red onion, rocket and black pepper)

mini banana and chocolate cake hearts

cashew and basil pesto which looks a bit boring but is amazing

black olive and sundried tomato bread (i couldn't decide what i wanted so i made both in one)

pancakes with banana, strawberry, maple syrup and grated chocolate (it was a sunday, i channelled the "treat yo self" vibe)

home made shortcrust pastry tartlets (creamy spinach & chestnut mushroom) w potato dauphinoise (particularly proud of this because it was much more straightforward than i originally planned):

also god bless jus roll for making these accidentally vegan:

sorry about the spam. i just really like to eat.

To limit one's diet, whether it's only eating plants or going on a juice "cleanse" or insisting on fresh organic offal, is a sign today of one's wealth and one's self-worth.
can't be bothered to waste my time deconstructing this article but this actually almost made me laugh. the constant corollary drawn between veganism and wealth by this journalist (who's cropped up before and whose work i don't appreciate) is both bizarrely superficial and sadly unrefuted. being vegan does not implicitly mean buying only super organic extra fresh ridiculously expensive produce. as a vegan who works in the food industry and lives a fairly frugal but healthy life i should know that pretty well.
as an aside the fact that she calls herself a lifelong vegetarian with other dispositions is the cherry on the facepalm cake. there are a lot of different reasons why people are vegan and we're obviously not of the same ilk. whatever. i hope beyonce enjoys being vegan, as if the chatter of layfolk has any impact on her affectations.

this thread is an anthropologist's dream. i can't even begin to process the myriad strata that constitute even just the city of london. people just blithely going about their day without realising or appreciating the lost city beneath them. i've got a really good book on london actually. would anyone like to do a historical sites ride soon? has that already been done?
anyway - i shouldn't hijack the thread and make it so london-centric, ha. the pictures above of the sri lankan rock fortress remind me of the Emishi people of C16th Japan who were forced to flee and build fortress settlements up in the mountains. i wish i could find pictures, i know the physical layout of the municipality interests you perhaps more than the social history oliver!
i also recently saw this account of underwater ruins off the coast of Okinawa. how amazing would it be to see that in the flesh!
finally since the title encompasses "lost cities" i don't think it's too tangential to drop Agartha into the discussion... i doubt it'll fly with many here though (pics or it didn't happen, etc)
