i never made a thread for my track bike (now fully ridic tarck with 50+cm risers) because it was the slowest build in the universe and i cba but i'm building a winter bike and want some advice.
end goal: comfortable fixed bike with wide clearances, mudguards & and preferably disc brakes or a combo of disc front and canti rear. i'm not really one for fancy ass shit so anything sturdy will do nicely. i'm also averse to spending large chunks of money and would rather build than buy complete but hey if anyone has a pomp in M they don't want any more hmu.
at the moment, pompetamine frame & pompino v4 frameset are the same price. i've been told that 135mm spacing (which i have no experience with) is "fiddly" and "not fiddly at all" to run fixed and tbh that's the only thing putting me off getting the pompetamine which i feel would be a better investment because if i decide to not run it fixed in the future i'm not hindered by 120mm track dropouts. if anyone's got any advice i'd love to hear it, otherwise blah blah pomp build thread
prelim thoughts:
- i know surly do a 135mm fixed rear disc hub, but as i said not familiar with this spacing and wheel consequences or disc brakes and want to learn. it easy to find a complete wheel?
- is there some sort of idiot's guide to disc brakes you'd recommend that isn't just googling it?
- other recommendations to kaffenback forks? open to crabon options if not $$$$
- any good quality but inexpensive if possible sealed components (BB in particular) for winter/sludgey riding ( @±ln(x) i think you mentioned something about this last time i saw you?)
all thoughts welcomed, happy to learn. thank you!
