If you are running a CLI (terminal) version you might as well just use Debian. No reason to jump on the Ubuntu wagon then. Besides that, most of it is interchangable between the distro's since Ubuntu is based on Debian.
Seconded, you won't need all the bloat. If you really want a loonix 'hobby' then compile Gentoo. But maybe don't.
Debian's stable, light, and has a decent package manager that's easy to use.

What are a good set of tyres to keep in reserve if the weather starts to turn icy/snowy any time in the next few months?
Riding fixed, max clearance is really 30mm for slight knobblies (without guards).
Knowing that without going down the studded route, or getting another bike (too poor) you can't guarantee too much, what's the best tyre to keep me rolling?
Again I'm poor, so <= £20ish per tyre, ideally.
Schwalbe CX Pros any good?

Depends what your priorities are.
I haven't ridden on Durano Plus, but the impression I get from those who have is that they're pretty solid on the puncture resistance front, and roll well considering this. Good winter/commuter job.
I'm personally a big fan of the Conti GP4000S. They're pretty quick and pretty grippy, and are fairly resilient for the type of tyre that they are.
If you want something on the quicker end of puncture resistant tires, I'd suggest Michelin Krylion Carbon

"The court heard the illicit affair began last year after a discussion about driving lessons.". Well, of course, one minute you're talking about parallel parking, the next you're in bed with your dad's girlfriend. It's a story as old as time.

She seems pretty tidy though. Fair play. Aside from the, er, illegality, y'know?
