Have you tried an Evans bike shop? I was just in my local Hendon store and they gave me a bike box gratis and I noticed that they had two others waiting to be thrown out and probably more in the back. Decathlon shops also gladly give them away, although not sure about Halfords these days. Seeing as you're after 5 it might be easier to get them this way instead of odd ones given by peeps on here.

I'm reluctantly selling my Denton road bike. Size is Small with 50cm c to t downtube and 53cm top tube. The bike's frame really is too small for me and I optomistically thought a forward sloping long seatpost could balance things out, (at least I now know how far this will take me) but now feel I should move the bike on. It has the majority of it's original parts, except for a few like the brake levers and chainset which I thought I'd upgrade with something a bit better. I've researched the frame and believe it's one of Denton's 80s models. The builder isn't all that well known, but Denton's was a shop in Newcastle that bought in frames from very respected builders including Mercian, Kevin Winter, Dave Yates and Paul Donohue (apparently, Donohue went into a business partnership with the shop in the 80s)and applied their own shop decals to them.
So, unsurprisingly, the bike's frame displays all the hallmarks of a quality road bike, going by its having been built with 531 tubing, using Campag dropouts, along with displaying nice details like the semi wraparound seatstay caps.
The paintwork is in pretty good condition, although there is the occasional chip around the frame (I've touched these up), and it's still very presentable.
All components are in fine fettle and work very smoothly out on the road. Amongst them, the wheels are nice Rigida ones and still the originals as per the Denton handbuilt decals showing on them:) The tyres fitted have been replaced and now they're sporting nice NOS Michelin ones which I reckon are period correct, and certainly improve the bike's looks thanks to their tan gumwalls. New innertubes and bar tape has also been fitted.
The bike is a very fast machine, with quick acceleration and great road manners. The fork blades give plenty of feel through the handlebars and their minimal rake provides crisp changes of directions at the whim of the rider. It’s a splendid road machine that will provide many miles of pleasure for the right person.
I've rebuilt and serviced the bike from the bottom up, checking all the parts for wear and tear, regreasing bearings and fine tuning the brake and gears setups. The bearings of the headset, hubs and bottom bracket are in excellent condition with virtually no wear. The other parts on the bike show minimal wear and were tuned up after the rebuild, and I've found everything works smoothly with no issues. Some of the bike's parts are the San Marco Turbo Bernard Hinault saddle, Suntour VX front and rear derailleurs and shifters, Shimano 6 speed freewheel, Tange Allez headset, SR Super Custom chainset and MKS AR2 pedals, SR Laprade seatpost and Atom hubs. For the cockpit, there's a Cinelli stem and bars, and Saccon brake levers. Brakes are Weinmann Alpha.
My asking price is £150 plus postage, and a forum donation will be made.
Questions are welcome, and viewing/test ride is also acceptable if you might live locally to me (Hendon, NW London). If there's no serious interest shown here after a while, it'll have to be off to evilBay.
Nb I'm also selling a good many single speed/track/time triathlon/triathlon parts in a separate thread on the parts forum, due to a pending house move prompting a serious clearout and fund raiser. -
Third and final new parts update. See end of the list. Also added pics/description info and prices for the existing stuff where this had still been missing (phew!).
Please note that the dibs placed on the wheel covers, Mavic wheelset (x5) and SR chainset are now cancelled, so this stuff is now totally available again. -
OK, fair do's, it's only that there can be some prejudice against vintage kit, and put together with your mentioning the carbon forks, I thought there was a fair likelihood of modern. But, as for my frame- I did mention that I only might have a suitable frame, I'm not even sure whether it would be one with forks. I have a big collection of vintage kit and can't even check through it at the present moment due to it being in a storage lockup on the other side of town. I am due to make a trip out there over the next few days though, so will be back in touch. But, in the meantime I hope other peeps might suggest some frames to you: both modern and vintage.

Well, with those specific questions, to answer them I should begin by mentioning that my chainset description only promised to supply the bottom bracket the chainset was originally set up with on a bike, and wasn't trying to promise that it was technically correct as how the manufacturers recommend for single speed usage and chain line etc. The fact that it was set up on a vintage bike, and fairly likely to have been ridden in that state for a good while, together with the fact that the parts in question were made by the same maker was the only quite small reassurance I was trying to give that buying them as a package would be beneficial. But regards the bottom bracket setup whilst it was on the bike, I should mention that it was set up as single speed up front with multi gearing at the rear. I would speculate that possibly the bike was bought as a multi geared bike with standard double gearing up front (hence the axle) and then converted for time trial usage with only the one gear up front. This makes me think of my comment for my thread's MDT chainring description, where I point out that ordinarily (although not in the case of the MDT ring, due to the special design) single geared front chainwheels (like this one is) can famously suffer from the chain shipping unless a front derailleur is in place to act as a chain guide. Well, the fact that I bought the bike without a front derailleur in place would then seem to suggest that this wasn't necessary, and in fact the single ring managed to not suffer shipping even without the superior design of the MDT ring just because the BB axle would have been an adequately correct length/had the correct symmetry. But after saying all that, I do still need to check the bottom bracket details because in fact, now that you mention the TA model for single chainring setups, I could actually have a poorly memorised the model number for the bb removed and it could actually be the 314 model, just for the reason that the two model numbers are so similar:) Anyway, I'll retrieve the bottom bracket and let you know. The other things I do remember about the business is that I disassembled the bike with the chainset and kept the parts together in a box to ensure it could be reassembled as it was originally, so therefore I will be able to locate the TA BB in question, and not an unrelated TA BB. The other thing is that all the bb components were TA branded ones, so this would ensure everything works together properly.

Well, as mentioned, I did think it could be fairly assumed that the bottom bracket wasn't included free ie why would I first ask for buyers to pay an extra cost for the caps, and then follow this up by giving away the more substantial bottom bracket. But yes, I could have been more careful and specific when writing the chainset details, but as mentioned in my OP, I tried to get across that I was struggling to get all photos and details for the many items listed, and the vagueness about the bottom bracket is one thing that's come about through that (and indeed, I'm actually still struggling as several items are missing pics and some description info). Anyway, I can confirm that the bottom bracket is a TA 344 model, although I've no more details ATM but can let you know. I will also be able to work out a price but would like to retrieve it from storage first in order that I can double check the condition is as I remember it to be.

I do still have them, although in the listing I did try to indicate that the bottom bracket wasn't included, although I didn't actually mention a separate price. Not sure if you were thinking it was a package (I did mention that crank caps could be bought for an extra cost, so thinking most would assume the same for the bottom bracket). If you're still interested I'm happy to sell whichever bits you want, but would first have to work out all the prices.

I have several wheels that may well fit the bill. The hub spacing I'm not sure about for all of them as many are 70s/80s and so spaced for 5+ speed blocks, but could be re-dished for 4 speed. A few of the possible 4 speed ones are from the right era but are tub fitting, which I'm not sure would be what you're after. I don't think there were that many clincher alloy rims back then (mostly steel) except for the 1st gen Weinmann rim (with uncommon branding) and even those are quite rare. I suppose wheels with these rims would likely have 4 speed specific hubs, but they might also be five speed. I'll see what I have. It might help if you tell us what brands are on the front wheel hub and rim, unless of course it wasn't original to the bike.

THREAD UPDATE: small price drops on most of the parts.
