I liked that stage best too. But my GF has a proper fixie skidder so adding guards was just sensible.

28s fit in Alpina forks, you just have to find the right 28mm tyre for that.
If they come in large for their size e.g. Continental GrandPrix they won't fit but others will e.g. Continental Gatorskin or GrandPrix 4Season.
