I'd call it a stepped ferrule, though it may well go by other names.
You can get them here, but I wouldn't be surprised if you can get them singly and cheaper from your LBS.Just going to head down to Full City now.
I thought it would be something like that, but a name helps... Thanks dude.

Came across a cable stop that I was not sure how to use, but see here: http://www.lfgss.com/post3305855-38897.html
The power of LFGSS. That is one less thing in the way of me getting this built.

Mostly assembled, which lets me get a look at it.

Shitty pictures, sorry.
Some of the stuff is working for me, some is not.
Yes, I think that I like black stem, bars, post and seat. And I think it looks fine with the chromey brakes. But, need a new headset and not sure which way to go with that - black I think, since the stem is black.
The chainset is horrible. It is a standard Shimano 2300 double, a dull grey alloy. I think I either need to go chome or black with that, not sure which.
Of course the pedals are wrong too. They are some big BMX-ey platforms with straps. I like riding with straps, don't like clipless, but I think I need to find some cages to thread those straps through. But still not sure which way to go....
Could go black headset, get a black crank and pedals, and aim for some black brakes at some point in the future. Or keep it mixed, black headset, chrome brakes, chainset and pedals - still be black straps though.

Started to build the Ritmo.
Had some trouble getting the stem all the way around the bars. Used the wooden handle of an old wire brush to lever open the pinch a little.
The BB was troublesome too.... the Ritmo has a couple of rivets keeping the under-BB cable guide in place, and one of them is too close to the edge of the shell for my Shimano cartridge BB.

I am guessing that I could have found a BB with a slimmer profile, but did not want to wait for that to arrive, especially as I already have more BBs than I need. A few minutes with a file flattened it down a little. Hopefully still enough metal there to hold the thing in place.

So, a bit of a session in the kitchen/workshop last night. What fun we had..
Most of the parts need to come off the old Ammaco. Most of that went well, until I got to the point where I needed to get the cranks off the BB. I remember now that the crank puller I have is shit. The bit that pushes against the end of the spline is too small, and ends up going into the threaded hole, not all the way in, but far enough to get fouled in the threads. Tried sticking a variety of bolts into the hole and pushing against those, but they all got bent and had to be retrieved before they bent such that they were stuck.
In the end, I chopped the end off the tool. No vice, so mole grips and hack saw, lots of grunting and bashed knuckles, but done.

The Ammaco is now stripped and awaiting a bit of a clean before going up for sale.

Excuse the big photo, with shit in the background
The rear mech cable stop is not actually a cable stop. I think something is missing. It is not large enough to fit the cable outer ferrule into and whatever does fit into there would go all the way through as the hole/gap is the same all the way through.
This is from a Raleigh Ritmo. I am guessing that some sort of nipple shaped boot or some such would be used. Does anyone know how it would work, what it would be called, and where I might find such a thing?

Why don't you try holding your kids hand as they cross a road and walk don't scoot, if they walk into a cyclist it's the adults fault clearly for being irresponsible, I always double scan before breezing through lights, my worst nightmare would be to knock down an innocent kid crossing what if CID unmarked were to breeze lights in a persuit . Would be smart arse daddy's fault so next time your out with the brats and scooters hold there hands that way they won't run infront of us, secondly what cyclist wants to press the breaks after building up a nice speed and there drained no way,
The cyclist who "breezes" through some lights and hits one of my kids, CID or not, is not very likely to ride a bike again, ever.
I mean seriously, what a cunt.
^ Sorry, just saw your post, I will ignore from now.

can't really give a clue that's worthwhile; look at the picture, i said it's nearby.
although it's unenforceable and not really worth mentioning... it would be nice if tag was played without google/ image property inspection!
Yeah, that's sort of why I mentioned it. Most of the images don't contain it as they are resized when uploaded to this or that photo site, but the last ones were linked to the originals on Dropbox, and there you have the original EXIF data. In this case, they were taken with a Leica, not a phone, so no GPS.
I for one am going to check that Photbucket hides the data. If not, I guess you just turn off the location services when you take a pic with your iPhone.
It would be cheating to use it. Yeah sure I checked, but no chance I am getting out of work to chase this one, so it was just curiosity.
I would really like to get one though.

Y'I know. I would feel bad if my moment of anger ended up hurting someone who should not have been hurt. I am not violent, don't fight normally, at all. But I have been surprised at how angry I feel when it is my kids' safety in question. See earlier in the thread where I shouted out a RLJer a week or so ago. He got within six feet of one of my lads and I was on the point of running after him and starting something.
