Not so many black stems out there, so had to go to eBay to get a System Ex. The first one arrived with a scratch from Dereks Cycles, but they were kind enough to replace it immediately, without even waiting for the return - indeed they are not even interested in seeing the original returned. A good trader - http://www.lfgss.com/post3295204-775.html

Not sure if this is the right place.. thread has the right name, but the content I am not following: Anyway, just bought a stem from Dereks Cycles Online on eBay to find it was badly scratched/gouged when received. I sent the following to Derek (?):
""
Dear derekscyclesonline,Hello,
I have opened the parcel to find that the stem has been gouged quite deeply at the top. I don't think this has happened during postage, as apart from the rip where I have torn the parcel open (with my hands) there is no other mark to the wrapper. The gouge is quite deep, I imagine one would have to hit the stem quite hard with a tool such as a chisel to make such a mark.
Consequently I would like to exchange the item for another unmarked item the same. Please tell me how I would go about doing this. I assume that I will not be liable for the postage to return the item?
Regards
""And got an almost instant response:
""
Hi, sorry to hear about the problem. I'll post another stem for you ASAP - There is no need to return the damaged stem, by the time I have paid postage and the hassle for you to have to go to the post office also.. Its just not worth it.Leave it with me - I'll sort it ! :-)
All the best
chris

The North London Line, then Silverlink has almost defined my London experience. I have always lived somewhere along its route, Hackney, then Kentish Town, Acton (!), Hackney, Highbury, Hampstead, Holloway and finally Islington again. And friends have lived at various points along it. All the stories above bring back memories - it did used to be unreliable, scary and sometimes a time to relax for half an hour and look at the view going by.
Even though one might get nostalgic for the old days it is definitely better now. Turn up and go on a nice warm safe train, with connections all over the place. And the kids (spot the difference to the man who used to enjoy the scary old North London Line) love to run up and down the length of the train.
Yeah, sorry, that's my kids.

I think I would just push at the sign, it would fall over, I would ride, ride like the wind, tag the tag, and move on to the new one. Which I already have in mind. It is a long away from the first, and the lock would be banging around my bottom bracket, occasionally catching street furniture and what have you.... the police would be alerted - cycle crime is a high priority, a high speed pursuit would ensue...

No, 4500 is the 'old' design. They changed it on Tiagra when it went 10-speed. 105 changed with 5700, Ultegra changed with 6700, Dura-Ace changed with 7900.
That's what I'm talking about! Detail, thanks. I have promptly returned the 4600 I have bought, and managed to find a 4500 for the same price. So, the problem of compatibility goes away.
Repped. Hopefully good repped, something went funny with the thing....

Trying to claw back some of the silly spending that has gone on whilst I am trying to build an "affordable" road bike. The prices are for me to deliver, as long as it is in London zone 1 or 2. I suppose I will be less keen to go a long way from Islington for a few quid than for the bigger items - but basically I am looking for an excuse to "run some errands" on Saturday afternoon. If you would like to pick up that is fine too - I work central (Fetter Lane) so collect from there.
If you would like posting I will add that at cost, but I would prefer to avoid posting which is why I am posting here rather than eBay.
I will add stuff as I get the chance to take pictures.
Dibs followed by PM, we arrange delivery or pickup, then PayPal the listed price - I am happy to cover the fees.
Please tell me if the prices are silly and/or make offers.
