Ta. Quickly reading, although I will have a better look later, confirms what I thought, that it is largely a linguistic thing. I have always been fascinated by this - the idea of sign language as a real living language, not something which is making do for the lack of a real language. I love the way that you can see (hear?) accents when you see deaf people signing... you see cool young kids using a more languid motion to sign. The slightly prim old ladies seem to use a more precise clipped movement - one could image them decrying the deaf (Deaf?) youth for not speaking properly. Just like they do in English, French, whatever.

Dammit's comment - this. But probably not palatable to the WWF (or whatever they are called now). And goes against the grain as far as law enforcement and that goes. Compare with the war on drugs. If they made the shit legal, most of the problems (crime, violence) would go away. But that is not the way they go about it. If people want things, the response is usually to deny them it.

But that is the point. If you insert enough of not rhino horn into the rhino horn supply chain, and they find out from their testing thereof, then consumer confidence will fall to the point that unless you are actually testing it yourself, you would not be sure it was rhino. I mean, unless they test it, then your fucking with it is not going to matter.
See the horse in beef burger scandal. Everyone kept right on eating shit beef, until they realised it wasn't.
Edit: The "that" (which is the point) is not Khornight's post, but a number of the posts up above.

Wait, that's a really good point. Look how the way tainted processed meat has damaged the market for processed meat. So, grind up all them cow and horse horns/hooves and flood the market, taint the original rhino 'product' to the point where no one trusts it anymore. And keep doing it - I mean, let's face it, you would be making money while you did it. Lots of money.

Sure, I get that - and I am sure it is true, but only to people above a certain age. None of the less-than-40-years-old people I know in the old Soviet states (and I know quite a few) care about any of that. When I first started going there I would occasionally start a "wow, what was it like, back in the day?" or "must be amazing living through these times, now that you are free" and I would get a look like "what are you talking about?". I was born in the sixties, the war was only 20 years ago, but I don't think people in London were thinking about the Blitz, they were getting down with the swinging shit.
But anyway, none of that matters to me as the beholder with the eye, if you know what I mean.

The title says it all really. A 400mm 26.2mm System EX black seatpost. I bought it from eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120607416752?var=420064277881&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649) but have decided I wanted silver instead. It is brand new (not in a box, but totally unused, not fitted at all).
As you can see, it cost me £13.50, so let's call it seven quid - collected or delivered by hand. Probably about a tenner posted, I would have to check.
I live in Islington, work in Fetter Lane so am central most of the time. If you are central you would probably be able to persuade me to deliver it to you.

Nice talking to you Shoosh and apollo. Sorry to hear about losses from the racks. From the sounds of it, mine was locked to a rack not covered by CCTV. A bit bold/desparate to steal from a rack right outside a pub. Every chance of the owner coming out, with friends, and finding you at it.
rogan, I got a black 400mm System Ex 26.2 seatpost which I would give you for a tenner, if you think it would work - what's 0.2mm between friends? I bought black but wish I had got silver. In fact, it was £13.50 new, so call it seven quid and you're in. PM me if you want to give it a go.

Google failed, Ebay succeeded:
At least if you're prepared to shift to solid axle.
I found this last night: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/29er-Singlespeed-Disc-Rear-Wheel-for-MTB-Hybrid-or-Cyclocross-6-Bolt-10mm-135-QR-/300866988962?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item460d11eba2
A whole wheel, so that will save you any wheel rebuild effort. Only £50, but disc specific. Tbh I am quite tempted myself as it would be a cheap replace for mine... which is a bit shonky. But go right ahead if you want, I really should keep the money in my pocket.

I would be very shaken if this happened to me. In fact, I like others above, feel shaken to even read about what could have happened just by doing this or not doing that on your bike. The sheer lottery of it would (has) really shake me up. And I know how you feel, going back and thinking did I do right? Was it my mistake?
One way of looking at it is that statistically speaking, that was your accident, and you walked away from it. So you should be done for the next few years.
You're very unlikely to get any trouble from him. Firstly the people you have reported it to are not going to be distributing your name, and even if they did, it is very unlikely that he would follow through on his threats once he is not in his van. People are in a different more aggressive place when they are driving which does not necessarily translate to their out of vehicle persona. But he still needs to be reported and ideally banned from ever driving again - if he cannot handle a vehicle without endangering other people, then he should not be put in that position. Unlikely, but if he gets removed from driving duties at his current job, we will all be a little safer.
