Oh yeah I did change to speedplay! Was having some knee issues and thought it might help. Not sure if it did or just a coincidence, but am finally back to riding after several months of pain...
I've swapped bars & stem so many times now. I decided I wanted a slightly longer reach, and also aesthetically all the 31.8 stems I tried just looked really chunky on the frame. I think because the top tube tapers towards the front. The current ITM stem is a bit more svelte and happens to be 26.0 clamp size, so I picked up some cheap ergo bars from planet x. Feels quite comfy so am going to stick with them for the time being..

Slight issue - tried fitting a rear wheel today & drive side dropout is struggling to accept the axle. Basically the entrance to the dropout is just a tiny bit narrow for the axle to fit in. It's not a spacing issue, frame is supposed to be 130 and seems bang on. Also the axle slides in fine directly to the top of the dropout from the outside, if that makes sense. It's just the first few mm where it's too narrow.

Looking at the photo I can't decide if the dropout looks slightly bent or not. I see the options as 1) filing it to make a bit more space, or 2) having it bent back (if indeed it is bent). Any suggestions?

Which modern groupset would work on one of these, aesthetically?

(look kg243 image taken from saarfs site)Was debating vintage vs modern but just realised I can get a pre tax loan from my employer to spend in a bike shop, which makes going for a modern group more appealing.
Most of the builds I've seen have silver components - athena or 105 5800 fall in this category. But happy to consider alternatives. Don't really want to go much above ultegra cost wise though.
Any suggestions from the look experts?

I've tried a couple of 31.8 ahead stems on my bike, no complaints about performance, but visually they're just a bit chunky for my liking. I think it's because the top tube seems to taper slightly towards the front on my bike, so a slimmer stem would look better. Do 26.0 stems have a thinner "shaft"? And if so any suggestions for what's available with a ~12 degree drop angle?

Yeah, that's the one. Looked to be going for about £20 with 30s to go... I contacted the guy afterwards and was still available. Picked up today & he was a pleasure to deal with. Glad to have got this.
It looks to be the actual frame from the pic above judging by the chips on the chain stay:

Also has "Albertville" inscribed on the down tube, looks like it should be a decal but can't feel any edge. I've seen a couple of other KG243s on the forum, anyone reading this have the same?

Will probably take me a while to get it built. I have 80% of an 6800 groupset which I was (controversially?) debating using for this. I've seen it look pretty good on other 90s frames e.g.

Quite excited to be collecting one of these at the weekend:

Currently riding the following:

So will be good to have something different.
Any suggestions for the build? I believe this is a late 90s frame, Columbus Neuron tubing. Probably need to decide on a fork first, the original frames came with a straight blade chrome fork which i think looks pretty good. OTOH, I'm not too fussed about having everything 100% period correct.

A few things to move on.
First is a ti seatpost from aliexpress ("Xian titanproduct" no less). It's sandblasted finish, similar to moots. Diameter is 31.6 (though I found it quite snug in my frame, still fine though), length 35cm. There are the usual insertion scratches, with 14cm (to the rails) of unmarked post. It's straight with a bit of flaring towards the top and the clamp is set back slightly, 0.5-1cm. It's basically this one: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Titanium-Seat-post-CNC-Head/705853_423141347.html £30
Also have a Deda RS01 27.2 post, silvery finish (not polished), barely used. £7 In fact have 2 of these (just one shown).
Barely used "Nitto style design stainless bottle cage" from sprockets UK. Seems to be identical to the style R. Classic looking cage £10
USE thermoplastic seatpost shim 31.6 - 27.2. The lip at the top is bigger than I'd like so replaced it with an alloy one with more discreet lip. free if collected
TF imports (Kinoko) fenders, polished, 35mm. Not enough clearance on my bike to fit these unfortunately. Unridden, but a few little scratches from trying to fit, plus the front fitting tab has been bent back and forth a bit. £20
