My gangsta handles super well with 33mm rim width and the big tyres.

I guess because the tyres have a nice profile on that wide a rim? whatever it is i recomend it.

I have fitted 40c cross tyres to mine too with room so I wouldn't say you particularly need to do it but if you want to why not.

Also yours is a short and they have mad toe overlap so might be worth doing it just for that.

Also I've got mtx 33's on mine and they are really good. Strong fuckers (not 650 I know)

Clearance pics for @farewell back is fine all the way at ends of dropouts. Front is tight but still works.
