Doesn't seem like there's an option for non-machined: http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WPOOPOMP/on_one_120mm_clincher_wheels_(pair)
2.5 kg seems really heavy. I'm no expert on the subject, but ~600g more than the on-one 120mm set above, which is fairly inexpensive and not really particularly lightweight as far as I can gather, just seems like a lot. Of course the Gipiemme are ~15mm deeper, but 600g just really is a lot. Apart from the frame, I don't see any single component (okay, it's two wheels, but still) on a bike where you would be able to save that much weight and for very little money as well.

The gipiemme rims look nice, I'd also be interested in the braking performance and how they'll look after being used for a while? Also, does anyone know how heavy they are?
I recently had to go through the same decision as I wanted black wheels as well. I ended up with the on-one wheelset with machined braking surface, but looks wise I'm not entirely happy with them.

Since it's not really a project, but is basically done, I figured I'd just post it here.

http://nikolaus.dk/files/_nnj2359.jpgI realise the chain is slack, however I can't move the wheel further back in the dropouts. If I take out a link the wheel sits just on the edge of the dropout, which is kind of disconcerting. I figure if I just ride it for a bit the chain will hopefully stretch and I can take out a link and everyting will fit. Do I have any other options apart from getting a half-link chain?
There are two brakes on there since the lovely Berlin police require 2 brakes (they'll take your bike if you only have one) and the frame has the little things (what are those called?) for the brake cable on the top tube, so it would look kind of silly without a rear brake.

1st post...
Stupidly driving with a plastic bag in my left hand, which then got caught in my front wheel. As the bag started hitting my front wheel, I was thinking "oh, shit", but by then it was too late. This resulted in me flying over the bars and landing an elegant belly flop in the middle of the street. Luckily no cars were nearby.
Looking for my friends in the park, I was driving over the grass and failed to spot a huge hole right in front of me, which then catapulted me over the bars. Did almost a full front flip and emerged unscathed, although it was fairly embarassing with lots of people around. To add to the embarassment, I then had to meet with people (I didn't really know everyone) with my left pant leg ripped to pieces near "the crouchal region", awesome.
Trying to get off my bike in front of a green grocer. My left foot got stuck in the strap, I then toppled over, knocking down a box of oranges in the process, which were rolling all over the place. As I was lying on my back on the street amidst the oranges, some guy was walking by looking down at me. He didn't even smile, laugh or say anything, just looked at me like "wtf are you doing?!". I think this finally confirmed to me that germans have no humor :).
This all happened on my singlespeed and was entirely my own fault. I can only image what will happen when I finish my fixed gear one of these days...
I realise I won't change your opinion and since it's your bike and you can do whatever you want with it, that's fine :)
However, in my opinion with a really glossy finish it stops looking like wood and just ends up kind of plastic-like instead, which is a shame considering the great work you've done.
