It makes a lot of difference what the geo of the frame is. Old mtb's usually have longer seattubes. I'm 6'4'' but I still have a 19'' mtb, because it has a 61cm effective toptube.

I ride a miche primato high flange rear hub daily. I weight 90kg and never had any problems with it, didn't even take it apart till now.

Excuse the crappy phone pics.. Will make better ones when it's finished. Bought this bike three years ago to use the frame for a conversion. But I thought it was to nice and I really liked the Arabesque group so I coudn't do it. Now i'm building it up again to sell since I don't really need a geared roadbike and it's a bit small for me. I still have to put on a Rolls saddle, new straps and remove the reflectors from the pedals.
Edit: brake cables and front derailleur are already sorted.
